“Even better with the new restaurant and bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

I've been using this hotel for some time for both business and pleasure. I've recently returned on a business trip to discover the completely refurbished bar and restaurant which are both amazing. The ambience has improved greatly and the restaurant also has new menus. The bar is usually full of life and, although the premises are refurbished, the same great team has been retained.
The breakfast menu has also been revamped so for others who also like e.g. smoked salmon it's become part of the new standard fayre. The usual large breakfast buffet choices have been maintained and all the crockery, cutlery, etc. are all bright and shiny new - don't pinch the tea-pots, apparently they're so impressive that four have 'walked' already! I'm still looking for the shoe shine machine but everything else appears to be there ........
(Nearby (easy walking) there's also bars and clubs such as Fibre and Viaduct catering for all tastes in entertainment plus AMs restaurant which is an integral part of the Marriott building so you don't even have to go out in the wind and rain to get to it and you can charge the cost to your room.)
Paul, the Marriott's famous Guest Relations Manager, is still there to smooth the travellers' experiences and I'd swear he might have had a facelift too, as well as the bar and restaurant, (but I daren't ask him)!
So I'd recommend it, as I did before, and now it's been revamped it has to be worth a stay to experience what is becoming deservedly one of the top venues in Leeds - I'm planning on bringing 'The Boss' back here next month so she can see for herself.

Room Tip: After enjoying the delights of the bar and restaurant you'll probably sleep weel but in Leeds Fr...

This has recently had the dining room and bar reburbished. It is now a lot more modern and light. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre with parking available in the multi storey 50 years away. We upgraded to an executive room which allowed us to use the lounge room on the first floor with free wifi and tea/coffee/soft drinks. Between 5.30 - 8.30pm there is a selection of hot side dishes available as well as beer and wine - all complimentary. If you work it right then the upgrade is more than worth it!
Although this hotel is more expensive than the nearby Crown Plaza and Hilton it is worth the extra.

Here with husband and son (8) for three nights really as a base as we couldn't get a family room in York. Situated in a really quiet courtyard with the main street just literally round the corner, lobby nicely furnished and feels welcoming. We were on the 6th floor and apart from people being a bit inconsiderate laughing and screeching (though you do get this everywhere - why can't people go along corridors quietly - my son is better behaved?) coming in late at night we didn't hear anything else. Having travelled from Glasgow we didn't feel that we wanted a big meal and didn't want to go out looking for somewhere to eat, there didn't appear to be anywhere in the hotel to get a lite-bite. We ended up in the Midtown Grill which is a steakhouse in the hotel and ended up with just a salad each, however as a nice touch at the end with your bill you get DIY toasting marshmallows and choc sauce which kept my wee one entertained. Swimming pool and changing rooms very clean and pool was quiet with very good opening and closing times. We ate in AM Indian resturant the next night - food lovely but we did feel a bit rushed, though to be fair they were full and we hadn't booked.
The hotel does not have its own car park but there is an NCP just a few hundred yards away that the hotel gets you a 10% discount for. We paid £17.00 per day (!!) and decided it might be easier to take the train to York instead of looking for parking there, the train station is just around the corner but cost us £30.00 return (on top of the 17 we were paying to the NCP!).
Breakfast is the usual fare - staff very welcoming and pleasant. Though the area for the food did seem quite small and was a bit of a squash at times. I have my usual complaint of these DIY toasters - hate them! No individual condiments (jam, marm, honey etc) you had to take what you needed out of the pots (little sticky fingers helping themselves - hygenic?) - when you have more than one of you and each wanting a different thing, juggling hot toast, plates etc - not good. Sad as I sound, I would like to bring back old fashioned get-it-served-to-you-at-the-table with your preserves.
Actually all in all it was a great location especially if you want to do shopping in Leeds.

Room Tip: Ask for a room furthest away from the nightclubs. We were advised on check-in that we may get a bit...

I have passed on your feedback about the breakfast service to our Food & Beverage Manager.
We do offer a lighter menu in our 1871 bar and also during the day in the Hub coffee lounge in our reception.

5 minutes walk from the station. Perfect hotel for business. Bedrooms are modern and comfortable.

Typical Marriott bathroom - they could do with some updating into the 21st century like the bedrooms.

The Guest Relations Manager quickly resolved a problem I had with the room and reception staff and he was professional and charming.

The restuarant was being redesigned, upgraded when I was staying and believe it's going to be cool and contemporary when it opens.

Marriott is never the cheapest for drink or food and expect to pay over what would normally be paid in your average restuarant.

The pool looked good even though I didn't go for a swim. I did use the gym and it was too small and really shouldn't be classed as a gym. People were squeezing by each other and just too small for a good workout. Pretty poor and becoming a theme now as I stay in other Marriotts around the country.

Room Tip: Expect an old fashion gym and just too small for a good workout

Just back from a weekend have stayed here many times, very comfortable rooms and location is excellent. Don't bother booking the Exec Package as they advertise as including breakfast and hot and cold buffet. However, it's only one small hot dish and cheese and biscuits, plus drinks so not really worth they extra money unless you just want something light in the evenings. Rooms are the same whatever package you take. Just maybe a sofa added but not worth paying the extra £40 per night. They have recently refurbished the breakfast room and bar so looks much nicer. Just one small fault with breakfast - loads of staff milling around but we were constantly having to ask for them to replenish stocks as croissants etc were running out - would have been nice if they had kept an eye on this without having to ask. All in all a very nice hotel and will go back again.

Just had a lovely stay. Fantastic feather toppers and duvets on the bed. Loved the fact that all cutlery and glasses were polished...spotless all round. We had great cocktails in the bar and a fantastic Indian meal in A M Kitchen and bar.

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions and I always feel very welcome from check in to check out. The rooms are very comfortable and there are smoking rooms which I personally appreciate. The bar and restaurant have just been totally revamped and whilst they are now very "cool" they are also rather expensive! As an example a Caesar salad, a mixed grill (with chips) and a pint of beer is about £40.
As a Marriott Rewards member I find the Executive Lounge excellent.
