Description: One of the city's most historic pub, and listed on CAMRA's National Inventory as one of the most historic interiors in the UK, The Haunch is packed with history, reputedly haunted by the ghost of the cheating card player, whose mummified hand is displayed in the upper 'House of Lords' Bar, with the snug 'Horsebox' allegedly the meeting place of Churchill and Eisenhower whilst planning the D-Day landings! With a spacious first floor restaurant, and a recent ownership change, The Merchant's House dining room on the first floor (entrance through pub) features a contemporary British menu specializing in local ingredients which include our famous venison casserole, superb selection of local meats and fish. Complemented with a specialist whiskey list, fine wine list and local hand - pulled real ales, as well as very friendly service, The Haunch is a definite 'must see' on your visit to Salisbury!

Whilst acknowledging that this is a tourist spot, I only wanted to pay for a pint, not buy the pub! Better beer and much better pint at 'spoons up the road

After a somewhat drab day happened to purely by chance stumble across this place of great history and real old world charm and couldn't have been happier that I did. Real rustic feel to the place and could not fault either service or food, our charming waiter joe could not have been any more helpful and the burger I had was flawless, will without doubt be back in this life or the next / whenever I am next in Salisbury, this place has been going for 700 years and I'd imagine will be in another 700!

The pub it self is a fantastic throw back of times gone past for which I would definitely give a score of 5/5. I recommend you drink and soak up the atmosphere and eat elsewhere.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime in March. This was our second visit to the pub, on the first visit the food had been good and the service just about ok. This visit both were below par. Firstly after we had read the menu and the waiter turned up, we were told that a number of the things we wanted were off, annoying as we were not told when we were given the menus. We ordered drinks and were assured that these would be with us directly. They were not, we had to remind the waiter who then blamed the girl behind the bar! The size of the wine glasses were not the ones we asked for and were larger and more expensive, we should of complained but we were just grateful to have anything by then. When the food came, the battered fish I had was very poor. Pale in colour and tasteless. The venison sausages were good but the mash was poor. At no point were we asked how was your meal, perhaps they knew. Would not revisit.

Went here for lunch on a busy Saturday so expected to wait a while for food to arrive. Opted for fish and chips - what a mistake. The batter was light and crispy but the fish was a strange shade of puce and tasted awful. Not sure what fish it was - maybe tilapia- but not one i ever want on my plate again. A great shame as service was good as were surroundings.
