“Excellent food, service and reasonably priced! BYO too!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

We visited Cafe Zam Zam for two reasons: the reviews on tripadvisor and the fact that the place is BYO. Used to paying £5 for a glass of wine, its refreshing and perfect for those on a budget to bring a bottle for the same price and get three glasses! Alongside that the service and the food are both excellent so all in all spot on.

Speaking to the owner (Sonny) after our meal, it is in fact true that the guys travel the 37 miles from Brum each day to open the restaurant, and their strict approach to Islam means the family won't invest in an alcohol liscense; all the better if you want my opinion.

The food was excellent and they were even willing to rustle up two dishes not on their menu; still to the same high quality.

Thanks for a lovely evening.

“A simple but lovely meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

From the outside Cafe Zamzam looks like a regular shop but inside is a small, clean and unpretentious Indian restaurant. Although the phone wasn't answered when I booked I left an e-mail and I was called back as promised. We booked a pre-theatre meal and were served promptly and efficiently. There were only a couple of people being served when we arrived at 6:15pm but the place soon filled up and they were having to turn people away who hadn't booked. Always a good sign! The usual poppadoms and chutneys arrived quickly and we were able to enjoy them with the bottle of wine we had brought with us (no alcohol licence!)

The two main courses arrived extremely well presented on attractive plates with accompanying side dishes. The Chilli chicken and Lamb Daifol with lime were both tasty and different from "regular" curries and the portions were just right. The freshly cooked Peshwari nan was hot light and tasty, probably the best we've ever had.

By the time we left the place was buzzing with a lovely atmosphere. As we brought our own wine the price was considerably less than we usually pay. I can wholeheartedly recommend this simple but excellent little restaurant.
