Amazing! Wonderful hotel, fantastic service and extremely comfortable rooms. We struggled to find a good hotel in the Aberystwyth area - the ones in the town are vastly overpriced and often noisy and grubby. Nanteos on the other hand is peaceful, good value, immaculately clean and overall just a superb place to stay. (The food is good too although the menu is somewhat limited. But breakfast - divine!!!)

Spectacular building, excellent service and a luxurious room - what more could I ask for? I was in the Dylan Thomas suite on the ground floor. Beautifully decorated in light, earthy, greens with splashes of purples to make it feel modern & elegant. Being on the ground floor right next to reception in no way impacted my stay. There were shutters for the lower half of the window to protect privacy if people were outside, whilst still allowing daylight in the huge upper window (which also had a separate shutter if you wanted to use it). The bedroom was off a little entrance "hall" (more of a cubby) which blocked sound from the corridor. Lovely lovely! I hope to return one day for longer.

Isolated hotel with sad surroundings
was given room on the ground floor
Checked out straight away and went to the different place

I'd echo the comments of the previous writer about the lack of welcome. The receptionist was not there and eventually another member of staff welcomed us but didn't have the expertise to sort out our booking. The front of house welcome is critical and sets the tone. Somehow there needs to be a better system. Yet we thought the room was beautiful and tastefully put together in a traditional style. And the meal we had was the best we have had in Wales for quite a long time in terms of ingredients, cooking, balance, appearance and taste. The chef patron knows what he is doing. Breakfast was also excellent. When further buildings are restored and the sunken garden rebuilt this will be a wonderful location. It's quite a long drive from the main road but well worth it.

This was our second visit to Nanteos and it still has the wow factor; the drive up to the house, the history, the setting and the beautiful old building which has been meticulously restored. When we arrived there was nobody in reception. The phone rang and the front of house person came running to answer it. She spoke for a long time, while we waited, regarding the hiring of new kitchen staff – a telephone conversation that should have been taken in the office, in private. Eventually while still carrying on the conversation, she managed to attract the attention of a waitress who took us to our room.
There was a wedding on the second night of our visit and it was good that we had been told of this and we had made other arrangements, as it was not possible to eat at the hotel. Breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. Our room was in the old bakery at the back of the hotel so it was quiet and separate from the wedding party. It had a very comfortable bed, good lighting, spacious bathroom and the best tea bags I have ever tasted. There was everything you could wish for in a first class hotel but the magic words “Welcome to Nanteos” were missing.
