We stayed here on a short break between Xmas and New Year on a Late Rooms deal. So at £35 for two including breakfast it’s hard to say bad things. As previous reports it is abit dated, the room only had a mixer tap shower which wouldn’t switch to shower, though in fairness we didn’t say, the owners could be abit more cheerful but having said that we enjoyed our stay. The food was good; we had a large tasty gammon and chips for our evening meal and next morning a decent breakfast.
The Welsh cream tea including Bara Birth was excellent

My sister and I booked on late rooms, we arrived to a lovely warm open fire and a friendly welcome. Our rooms were excellent and had everything we could have wished for. My sister had a four poster bed which delighted her, both rooms were spacious and had excellent en-suite facilities. The hotel was warm, plenty of hot water, food was good and staff were helpful- dealing with food intolerances without a fuss.
The location was superb with fantastic views from the bedroom windows- just a little outside Llangollen but easy to find. (After leaving we were told that the hotel does excellent cream teas so we will go back soon!)
I have scored the cleanliness a bit harshly - the hotel itself was very clean but my bathroom could have had a springclean and the very generous drinks trays had not been cleared away when we were shown to our rooms but this was rectified, with apologies, as soon as we mentioned it.

Room Tip: both rooms were excellent, location was completely serene and peaceful

My husband and I have just stayed here for 2 nights. The Hotel is in a lovely location but the Reception area is far from welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable but the lighting far from adequate for a room of its size. Better lighting would have helped enhance the room.It was also cold and a heater had to be brought up.
The staff were friendly and the Bar benefits from log fires. Food was good but nothing special and the breakfast menu was varied.
The dead flowers at the entrance to the restaurant did not look good though!!!

having looked at the previous reviews i thaught for £20 for a single room not to expect much! infact i may have to reserve the right to find a premier inn at 9pm

i have stayed in a lot of B&Bs over the years of been a tradesman, and i firmly believe you should have the same as you have at home.
somewere thats clean, comfy and quiet to sleep, and to have something close by to eat and relax.
been in the sticks 2 miles from civilasation its got all these here and for a place just to sleep over or sight see its a great place to stay in my opinion.

granted the carpets in the room are a bit traditional (not old and warn, look fairly new to be honest) it has wood chip on the walls and a green bath lol.

that aside, it has excellent views kids play area outside and a restauraunt and bar area downstairs, which you cannot hear upstairs.

id stay here all week if work would let me lol

After reading some of the negative reviews here we were a bit worried about having booked (which we did at the last minute when the hotel we had planned to stay at suddenly closed without warning). We had no need to worry. This hotel is 2-star, so it doesn't have pretensions to be a grand place. It's an old fashioned guest house which seems to have been run by the same family for nearly 70 years. Yes, there is woodchip wallpaper, and yes there are green bathroom suites, but so what? One day people will think white bathroom suites are unacceptable again, it's only fashion. We stayed in room 7 which is a large family room with a bath, didn't spot any lack of cleaning and the bed was comfortable, flat screen TV. (The "wires" hanging from the ceiling look safe, it looks like a former light fitting no longer in use). The bar meals are fine, it was quite busy all the time we were there; there's a micro-brewery on the site which produces a nice beer (which you can also buy to take home), and the views are lovely. If the weather is kind you can eat outside. There's a children's play area too. For the lady who complained about the aggressive anti-English attitude of the staff, we saw nothing of that and indeed heard very little Welsh considering we were staying there in National Eisteddfod week and we and some of the other guests were there for it. The service at mealtimes is on the leisurely side, which is fine if you are on holiday but might be inconvenient for some. We would stay again; it's not an expensive place and it is very well situated.

At the foot of the Horseshoe Pass, in the midst of lovely countryside is the worst hotel we've stayed at for years. Living in Kent, going to visit my Father who is unfortunately in a Nursing Home we stay overnight and have stayed in many hotels over the past few years. Booking through Late Rooms we try to get bargains. This Hotel was £60 for us both, including breakfast, the second most expensive place we have stayed at (the most expensive was boutique hotel in Ruithin at £90 per night for us both). Good points. If you are passing and fancy a pint the local (next door) micro brewery creates a very good beer. The food was reasonably priced and OK, with some interesting dishes on the specials menu (1/2 pheasant and whole partridge for example).
Down hill from here....
Menu is photocopied and dirty
1 wine list for whole restaurant - also stained and dirty (couple asked whether Rose wine was chilled and was assured the cellar was cold only to be told it was unavailable
table mat stained with food and coming unwrapped
When we arrived we were not expected and greeting was most unfriendly
Room (No 7) had wires hanging from ceiling. Bathroom very very dated. Shower hanging on by 1 screw, paint peeling from tiles and clearly had not been cleaned - hairs in bath and empty shampoo tube on side. The double bed was uncomfy.
Breakfast was poor - low quality bacon, beans and mushrooms. Poached egg was solid. Toast was thin sliced supermarket.
Worst value and worst quality place we have stayed in
Avoid if at all possible

I've stayed at the Abbey each year for the past 4 years and for the price charged their b&b is good value. The accommodation is a little dated and bathrooms a little tired, but always clean. There has been tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh fruit in a good sized room. There has always been a generous full cooked breakfast and evening meals offer a little more choice than basic pub grub. They brew their own real ales on the premises. This is a budget priced hotel, don't expect too much and you will not be disappointed.
