The food in this hotel is exceptional and great value for money! The owners are friendly, welcoming and very hospitable - if we ever go to Horse Shoe Pass again we will certainly go back here! You could not ask for a better place to go especially in winter with the welcoming warm fire - if you are ever near here please go you will not be disappointed!!!!

Just spent a fantastic weekend at this wonderful Inn in the most beautiful part of Wales. The Inn was excellent, lovely rooms and very clean, the staff were the most friendliest people we have met. The owner Ann was lovely & helpful, and couldn't do enough for us. Fantastic Inn, with the best views around & the full english breakfast on the sunday was without doubt the best breakfast we've ever eaten.
Thank you for a lovely weekend.

The comments about cleanliness and a comfortable bed are definitely true - 10 out of 10 on both counts and plenty of hot water, too. However, I was disappointed with the food - yes, large portions, but mostly bland and tasteless. We stayed 2 nights and dined at the Britannia the first night - a pork hock came covered in dark brown gravy which was unappetising to see and taste. It was accompanied by 6 vegetables, none of which had been seasoned and were tasteless. A steak pie was edible but not special, however portions were generous. Breakfast was greasy. I've since learned the chef was on holiday, so maybe we were just unlucky. The only white wine sold was Pinot Grigio on draught, or Liebfraumilch. Decor is a matter of personal taste, but patterned shag pile carpets, multi coloured wood chip and faux beams really spoilt what is an old and should be a lovely building. We had a choice of bath or shower, but not both, and the handbasin was mounted in a kitchen worktop. Our room was very small, as was the double bed. The owner was extremely pleasant and obviously works hard, but I genuinely expected better for the price charged. Would I stay here again? Probably not as there are plenty of other hotels equally welcoming with better facilities and equally good location.

I am no stranger to the Britannia Inn, since the early 1990s I have popped in for a meal on my quite frequent visits to the Llangollen area or when passing by on my way home from holidays elsewhere. However, I have never stayed there, really due to the fact home is just under 50 miles and an hour’s drive away.

However, I decided this August Bank Holiday to have a stop-over when visiting the Llangollen Railway which is just down the road. The Inn is located in a fantastic spot with extensive views from the front down towards Llangollen.

I dined in one of the bars both evenings, though there is a separate dining area if one wishes to use that. The food is very good – it is not pretentious - but good straightforward food served well in generous proportions.

I was travelling with my mother and it was good to be able to book rooms for single occupancy without the massive price differential which one often encounters in many other establishments if one wishes to book a room as a single.

I had room 7 which offered a view to the side of the hotel to a stream tumbling down the hillside, quiet and out of the way. If you find the sound of a mountain stream relaxing you will like this room. I slept with the window open and slept soundly both nights. Room 7 was a little on the small size or the substantial double bed rather large! There was a separate, small toilet and shower room.

My mother had room 6 which was bigger and had a large bathroom. Both bed and bathroom offered splendid views down the valley. Being a rather old building one cannot expect rooms to be of a regular size in a building such as this. It all adds to the character of a place.

Both rooms were very well presented and very clean. I thought it was nice to have a jar of proper coffee provided in each room rather than the usual sachets one usually encounters.

The double beds made up as singles were very comfortable.

As I had previously encountered on visits for meals service at the Britannia is always friendly and efficient, Ann the proprietor is a great hostess who along with her staff make you feel very welcome.

For those who like real ale Theakston’s is Old Peculiar and XB are on draught and well kept.

Breakfasts are as generous as the other meals served at the Britannia. They really do fill you up for the day.

I sampled the full fry up the first morning but opted for the poached eggs and smoked haddock the second morning when I saw just how generous my mother's portion was.
Whilst we had only intended to stay one night – my mother and I enjoyed the first night so much that we were delighted on enquiring if there was availability for a second night which there proved to be.

I have no hesitation in recommending the Britannia Inn for accommodation and look forward to returning to stay again.

as soon as we arrived we knew it was a good move, the abuse off Ann was truly amazing but i did not think for one moment she meant it (but husband Tony (poor chap) told us she meant every word.(only-joking) A great couple who deserve plenty of customers as you would have a job to find a fault.Great company & all the staff are the same, even chief bar-man MR. Jarvis (a star) looking forward to the next break there & will be stopping longer (sorry Ann)

Characterful old inn about 2 miles from Llangollen, near Valle Crucis abbey. Beautiful walking country all around. Room was quaint, a bit old-fashioned (in a good way), very clean, comfortable and quiet.
Hotel staff are exceptionally welcoming and eager to please. Food is good, and the beer (Theakstons XB and Old Peculiar) kept in great condition (would be nice to have a guest beer I suppose, but there is a micro-brewey in the pub half-a-mile down the road toward Llangollen if you want more variety).

What can one say, the Inn is in wonderful countryside, the rooms are comfortable and spotless. The staff are exceptional and the breakfasts and evening meals were just perfect.
Oh! and the bar is really good and the prices reasonble. All in all, the only place to stay in this part of the UK. We will return soon!
