“Lovely secluded cottage idea for walking Snowden and getting away with the dogs”
Reviewed October 8, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We wanted to find a cottage to spend a short break away with our two Alaskan Malamutes (largish dogs) and it was increasingly difficult to find anywhere that had the location and would allow '2' dogs as well.

When I found this, it seemed perfect!

The Booking
I was after a specific date (due to heavy work loads my wife and I could only get certain dates off) and I contacted the owner directly. Claire was very quick to respond and was able to confirm the bookings and make the whole thing very pleasurable to do. My biggest worry was being able to take the dogs as a lot of places were really restrictive. Claire assured us it would be fine. We communicated all the way up the stay and it was lovely to meet her when we got there.

Sygun Cottage
You walk through the door into a quaint kitchen where Claire had left flowers wine and some sweets. We arrived late in the evening and she'd left lights on and the heating on so it was lovely and warm. The living room was cosy, the chairs were lovely to lounge on and Claire had left some coal and wood for the log burner as we had requested (there is a charge but trust me its worth it). We weren't able to connect straight to the wifi as we didn't know the details but Claire had advised us she would give this to us if we saw her the next day). Some people said the wifi wasn't very fast, I disagree. We could stream from sky go on our ipad which to me shows the broadband is pretty good. The stairs are steep in this cottage so be aware, they can be tricky with tired legs. The main bedroom is a nice size. The bed and sheets were lovely and my wife and I had no trouble sleeping our entire stay. The on suite bathroom is small but it does the job the shower had good pressure. I do suggest you take additional toilet paper, we'd forgot, there is some provided but you don't want to get caught short.
The second bedroom (bunkbeds) we didn't use but we did use the on-suite which was also very nice.
The other cottages under red dragon holidays were in use but I have to say we wouldn't have known it. It was so nice to get away to such a peaceful place. The Pods looked really good and I can image a big group of us staying there enjoying a few bottles of wine after a good hike on an evening.
My only negative comment would be the hot water tap in the kitchen, which barely provided any water but we would boil the kettle to get the dishes washed when needed.

Location
It is ideal for access to Snowden, being near the Watkin Path I don't think you could find anywhere to stay (with dogs) that could be any closer. I had always planned to walk the Pyg Track and Miners Track which starts at Pen-Y-Pass and its about 15 minutes drive from the cottage, parking is £10 and make sure you go early! I was able to get up early each morning and take the dogs out for a little walk, it is on a 'main' road if that's what you can call it but the traffic is light and you can get across to a track and have a wander away from everyone, and you get some pretty good views in the morning.
Where were visited
There are so many walks to do if you do your homework, we only had a short stay so we had to be selective, the first day we visited Beddgelert, a lovely village and had we been here for a week we would have tried the restaurants or pubs (many saying dog friendly) as it was we wanted to try our first walk. This was The Fisherman's Path, it follows the Aberglaslyn Pass and this is a beautiful walk. You do start to go into the hills and the walk does get more difficult so make sure you prepared but there are stunning views.
The next day we tackled Snowden and it was bright sun and blue skies. A great achievement and a day I'll always remember.

On our last day we visited Beets-y-coed and had a easy day strolling around, there are a lot more tourists here but its a nice village to spend a few hours in, there looked to be some great forests to walk through as well.

Summary
A great stay and somewhere we will definitely visit again. The dogs were brilliant and enjoyed their stay. Claire was very friendly, always replied to my emails and made the stay a pleasurable experience. I want to bring friends and family along next time and perhaps stay in the bigger cottages. Highly recommend.

Hi Sam
Thanks for your lovely detailed review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay; I agree about the kitchen tap and in fact just after your stay it was replaced with a brand new one. I look forward to seeing you in the future and good luck with the photo competition. All at Red Dragon

“Lovely Cottage, good central location for sight seeing”
Reviewed July 1, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Lovely cottage, owners have made the cottage very homely and welcoming. Welcome gift pack, with all lights and heating left on ready for arrival.
Good quality interior with everything you need for a self catering accommodation.
Nice outdoor space next to cottage for eating outside or for a relaxing coffee.
Parking was not an issue for us as there was nobody in the adjacent cottages for most of our stay, so we were able to park off the road next to the cottage, however there is parking on the roadside.

There is no mobile signal at all, pay phone available and cottage does have wi-fi - although it's not fast enough for face-time calls.

Overall very enjoyable stay.

“Comfortable cottage in a fantastic location”
Reviewed June 3, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This lovely cosy cottage is in an excellent location for Snowdon and nearby villages. Clean, tidy with helpful and friendly owners. Nearby Beddgelert is a lovely village with wonderful walks and a good selection of places to eat. If we return to Snowdon we would definitely stay with Red Dragon Holidays again.

“Great location, quiet but not remote.”
Reviewed May 27, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Nice cosy cottage at the bottom of the Watkins Path. Two bedrooms, both en-suite, and a great log burner in the living room. A fine place to unwind after a decent day of walking.
The site is set amongst woodland and we were lucky enough to get a visit from the wild goats that live on the mountains. Did not get too close to them though.

Within a few minutes walk there is a good cafe, and a bus stop. Here you can catch a bus to the 'easier', but busy Pyg and Miners Tracks for Snowden. The bus will also take you to Llanberis if you fancy taking the train up to the summit. The service is infrequent though.

A good place for a family/group break. The dogs enjoyed it too.

“Tranquil spot, lovely location”
Reviewed May 1, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I was a bit reticent about booking a cottage next to an A road, but I needn't have worried, low levels of traffic in the day time, and very quiet at night. Fantastically located for the Watkins Path to Snowdon. Cottage is small but clean and homely. The living room with sofas and log burner were perfect after a long day walking. Hosts were very pleasant and had time to chat to us when we returned the keys. Other residents were very nice and even though we were in very close proximity, it wasn't intrusive at all.

A lovely cottage. The views were great, the rooms cosy and the hosts very helpful. Excellent info was provided before and during our stay. The cottage had everything we needed but with no clutter - brilliant. Our dog enjoyed being made welcome too.
