The St. David's Hotel

This in my opinion is the best hotel in Cardiff. It is a distance from the rail station and the main bars of the city, but the view, room size, and service were all very good. The bar closes quite early and the breakfast service is slow. The spa is a welcome bonus and has many good treatments and even if you have steam before breakfast it is worth it, if nothing else.

Car park can be full if you try and check in before midday.
Easy check in and check out and good reception area.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms, and rooms facing the quay have good views and catch the sun.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night after going to see a show in the Millenium Centre. I know it was only 1 night but we were very happy with our room, service and welcome we received. We booked for breakfast which was excellent plenty of choice and again a wonderful service from all the staff. My husbands job takes him to many hotels in the UK and abroad, he has stayed in no star to 5 star plus and he agreed that the St Davids Hotel was in the 5 star plus range. We could have driven home after the show but decided to spoil ourselves and this we most definitely did. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Having decided to travel to Cardiff for a hen weekend, it was a given we would want to stay at this wonderful hotel and make use of the spa.

The hotel itself was amazing, from the moment you walk into reception, you see how grand the hotel is and know you are in for a fantastic weekend. We booked 6 rooms in total, and one of these ended up being upgraded, which is always a bonus. We all had beautiful rooms with lovely balconies, and the staff were extremely helpful. One tip, if you are intending to use the spa, check you have robes and slippers in your room well in advance, we were left waiting a while to receive these and some of our party ended up going down to the spa without them. The rooms are beautifully clean and well presented, lovely size and beautiful bathrooms.

The spa was amazing. The swimming pool is like a lovely warm bath, the jacuzzi like a very hot bath, and the waterfall showers are fantastic if you dont want to pay for a massage. The sauna was extremely hot, and many of our party could not stay in there long at all! Those who had treatments seemed to be very pleased and looked very relaxed afterwards. We had a age range of nearly 40years in our group and there was something for everyone, and also the spa was not too busy, meaning treatments could even be booked on the day!

We didnt use the bar or evening restaurant but the breakfast was fantastic. Loads of choice for the cooked breakfast and pastries/croissants with various juices, coffee, tea & hot chocolate.

The staff were extremely friendly and chatty when checking in and out, even allowing the whole bill to be settled before all rooms had been vacated. They could not be faulted in anyway, even when we returned to the hotel at 2am a little worse for wear!

All in all, a great location, perfect for a night out in Cardiff without being stuck in the town centre, a bit of luxury for a good price, esp when you factor in the use of spa being included. Many thanks to the staff!!

Room Tip: They are all good, however if you end up with a free room upgrade then you will be extremely pleased...

We have stayed at this hotel on 4 previous occasions, one being our honeymoon, when it was a Rocco Forte hotel. For out 6th wedding anniversary we booked to come back to St Davids. From arrival it was a disaster. Our room was the most basic junior suite we had ever seen over looking the car park. A fire in the kitchen left us standing in the car park for nearly an hour, very badly managed fire evacuation with staff giggling and clearly no one had a clue what was going on, which we understand the fire was not the hotels fault but our dinner reservations were therefore cancelled with only a skeleton food service offered and no complimentary drink etc for inconvenience. The spa was was not functioning due to a dangerous level of chlorine. We were then unable to use the sauna as it was not working (maintenance unable to fix) so went for a swim in the only part of the spa that was working only to start itching after a few minutes so had to get out. We also noted other guests complaining of sore eyes and itchy skin. The spa area was dirty, hair all over floor, large puddles of water to walk through, dirt on bottom of pool and rusty heads on the swan neck fountains. In the room there were no sky chanels and the tap in our bathroom was broken. There was also 2 large stains on the carpet. No spa towels/slippers provided in room so had to call down (call not answered until 4th try). The in room breakfast was cold and items missing and ridiculously overpriced at nearly £20pp plus £5 to have it brought up and also given paper vouchers (five star hotel?) to hand over to the person who brought the food up. The toiletries in the bathroom were enough for 2 people for 1 night and after requesting 3 times for more conditioner we gave up. The hot water in the room did not ever get to 'hot' so we bathed in lukewarm baths. They provide scratch cards for the internet??? In a 5 star hotel? really? We had to go through 9 scratch cards (4 trips to reception) until the code finally worked. No batteries in the radio remote control. No one answered when we needed the bags brought down from 7th floor so we struggled on our own despite that this was an hour before check out, eager to leave and get home. On departure we were not even asked how are stay was. Perhaps the staff have been told not to ask for fear of the response. What a shame, what was once a lovely 5 star hotel has now sadly deteriorated to barely a 4 star. Also noted it is no longer a Leading Hotel of the World.

I stayed here with my fiance for my 21st and it was amazing! The staff were very professional and friendly. Although there was a wedding on, we didnt feel like we were 2nd best with regards to customer service.
The room was FAB! Big and modern with a stunning view of the bay!
(the only thing i would suggest is that they have the decking on the balcony cleaned but it didnt bother me too much)
Room service was prompt (a bit pricey) but as it was a birthday treat it wasnt a big deal and I felt really spoilt!
Loved the fact we could control the temperature in the room really easily and the bed was SO comfy we didnt want to ever leave!
The next morning we used the pool facilities which were superb! Pool was great, jacuzzi and sauna were great too.
All in all an amazing experience (and in a great location) and I may even consider this for my wedding reception!!

Had my wedding reception here and the service and food were exceptional. The wedding coordinator was in particular very good. I highly recommend all brides to look at this venue before settling for something less. Stayed in the hotel for two nights as well. The suite on teh 7th floor was fantastic although some amenties are looking tired in places. The view though is the best in Cardiff.
