we visited this hotel last night ,very clean, staff very friendly and welcoming, room clean with bathrobes which was nice, breakfast was the best i have had in a long while a full english(welsh) as they say it breakfast ,not greasy fresh produce with a full range of breakfast choices i.e yougurts, juice, rolls etc nothing too much trouble for the chef who was really nice, you may think the price is expensive but would be happy to pay more excellent all round, and in the heart of the bay excellent location a short stroll to access all the cafes and shops, they have boat rides every hour which takes you into the heart of cardiff at a small price.they have no parking outside the hotel but a short walk to the car park which costs 20.00 for 24 hours excellent value.

Room Tip: there is no best side to escape the noise of delivery lorries ,but its not too early to disturb your...

Stayed here for a night in early March as going to an opera at the Millenium Centre - perfect location for this venue. Stayed in Room 2, which is on the front of the hotel, and had no problems with noise, although this was mid-week. Average sized room, with generous bathroom. It had a bath only, with shower attachment but no screen - so needed to be sitting in the bath to use the shower - but great jacuzzi bath ; ) Room was clean and the bed was comfortable, with a mixture of feather and synthetic pillows. It had all the expected amenities such as tea/coffee, TVwith freeview, hairdryer etc. Check-in/out was nice and easy with very friendly staff. Nice to have the bar downstairs, with good rustic pizza in the evening and a lovely welsh breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again, but would be careful with room choice in summer months/weekend (as bar open until 1am on Fri/Sat).

Room Tip: Recommend Room 2 or other rooms on the front - good view of the Millenium Centre!

We stayed here briefly after a family party in Penarth (10 mins away). The room was the cleanest I have stayed in in the UK and although the area is lively, the room was comfortable and the bathroom immaculate with proper BIG towles. Breakfast was in the Cwtch bar downstairs which was unusual but fine. A great central location which we would recommend. It was no more expensive than some chain hotels.

Not worth the money except close to Millenium centre as advertised. Room had dirty carpet, unbelievable stain on curtain, no room for chair although my friend's room had one but with ripped seat cover. View of rough bar and Tescos. Couldn't open window because of traffic noise and curtains inadequate at blocking outside lights to be able to sleep. Breakfast in basement bar, more like dungeon, with no fresh bread and none of the advertised homemade granola. Very limited selection for a continental breakfast and though there was dry oatmeal on counter but this couldn't be served as porridge apparently. Luxurious bathroom fittings did not make up for the lack of attention to detail on everything else.

Great location. Fantastic welcome. Room great and really clean and comfortable. Bathroom great. Could possibly be noisy if on front and there are events on. Overall I'd stay again.

First, note that the most recent reviews here show some confusion, as there are now two Jolyon's hotels in Cardiff, the original one in Cardiff Bay, where we made the mistake of staying, and the new one in the centre, which may well be better.
I was not quite sure what to expect from a 'boutique hotel', but coupled with the prices and the ecstatic reviews on Tripadvisor, I imagined it would be quite upmarket. How wrong I was. This place is really no more than a jumped-up b&b - and I've stayed in far better b&b's for considerably less. All right, it's not the management's fault that the surrounding area is noisy - sorry, 'vibrant' - at weekends, but it doesn't make for the greatest sleep experience. More insulation would help. The room was OK, bathroom quite spacious and modern, bedroom itself a little small, but more importantly very little space to put anything - a tiny wardrobe and not a single drawer in the room. As for breakfast, it was all right but I couldn't see anything special about it, and the downstairs bar where it is served is gloomy in the extreme.
In short there was nothing here which would not be acceptable in a budget hotel, but at these prices I would have expected something a whole lot better.
