A lovely hideaway in the stunning Mourne mountains. Very comfortable. Very welcoming. I deal location for a walking holiday, or a motoring holiday along the Co Down coast and countryside. If you fancy the city attractions. Belfast is just an hour away. Looking forward to returning at some point in the future.
This cottage is a complete chill out from everyday life. Set in beautiful surroundings with two ponies, it really is idyllic and makes for a great relaxing retreat. We will definitely make a return visit.
Brigadoon cottage was just as "advertised." The location was perfect for us, just 4 miles from our ancestral farm. The perennial garden, blooming apple tree, and views of the Mournes had us outside even in the chilly mornings and late evenings as we watched the shadows emphasize various parts of the Mourne Wall (which we'd seen up close on one hike.) A quick drive made visiting Castlewellan with McGinn's pub (with wifi, an amazing interior, and great food) and the traditional village center easy and we enjoyed a day-long adventure on a beautiful Sunday walking and hiking Castlewellan Forest Park. Super comfortable double bed with duvets kept us warm and the material for a fire was ready and we enjoyed two nights of burning wood (just like at home in Maine, USA!) Good towels and basic shower and kitchen set-up. Loved the neighborhood cat - the welcoming committee of one every morning and when we returned from adventuring. We'd have loved an outdoor table; ended up dragging the bench around the yard and patio to chase the sun and views. Totally enjoyed the album showing how Cindy and Leo took an old shell of a cottage and created the little haven they call Brigadoon. We did "silence" the cuckoo clock during our stay. Then heard real cuckoos in the woods elsewhere for the next two weeks! If you want peace and quiet - this is the place. Our only regret was not being in walking distance to a pub, since we sure didn't want to have any drinks with the driving on narrow roads, "wrong side," and unfamiliar car!!
Myself and my husband spent a weekend here last June the cottage is so quaint a little gem.The scenery around it is beautiful.Cindy and Leo were lovely and made us feel very welcome and during our first visit we had a family emergency and had to leave earlier than planned and they helped us rearrange another visit nothing was to much bother for them so thanks again for a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage. Will return againThankyou
Stayed for one night last week, beautiful little quaint cottage, definitely a get away from it all place, just perfect, basic kitchen facilities. Lovely to have the fire lit on our arrival really nice touch, excellent communication with the host, will hopefully be back.
We had the most wonderful stay in this quaint cottage. From the outset we arrived for our Christmas getaway with the accommodation already heated, tree and lights twinkling. Total bliss to really get away from it all in front of a peat fire. We actually loved the fact there was no WiFi as it meant we could truly get away from it all. Our host Cindy was exceptionally accomdating and recommended the best local spots. We will certainly be repeating the experience as soon as possible
