Have to agree with another reviewer - I don't know what all the fuss is about. We have travelled extensively in the British Isles and elsewhere in Europe and the scenery is not stunning, or any of the other views that were mentioned. We waited and waited for the spectacular scenery, and it just didn't deliver for us. There are far more spectacular views on the Wild Atlantic Way in the Irish Republic, all the way up to Donegal from West Cork - unfortunately a train doesn't take you to them, but the views would take your breath away. We did enjoy the relaxation of the train trip, but we wouldn't be advising anyone to rush up and take the journey .....rather underwhelmed by the whole experience I'm afraid.

Lovely river and sea views en route. Courtesy bus from to train station to town and back is very handy!

I read that this was a scenic journey, and I sort of waited for it to get beautiful for a while...and then it was STUNNING. Worth the extra few dollars to take the train (as opposed to a bus) for this journey.

Another journey by train from Londonderry to Colerain today but still unable to see the beauty others have seen and I am very proud of our wonderful scenery in Northern Ireland.
Today was grey and dismal but even in good weather it just looks like a lot of mud flats, must contact Michael Palin to see if he can put me right.

And it's not just me saying that. It's none other than the intrepid, former conservative MP, Mr. michael Portillo. The train departs from the Waterside station in Duke Street, site of the famous anti- internment rally, led by internationally known MPs John Hume, Ivan Cooper and Eddie McAteer. When they reached the West end of the bridge they were attacked by the B-specials, a notorious branch of the RUC.
The single track line hugs the east bank of Lough Foyle to Magilligan and then takes right towards Castlerock and Coleraine. The stunning views, the high cliffs and the tunnels through the picturesque cliffs lead to Portillo travelling back to Ulster to remind him of the beauty of wee NORN IRON.
