We were staying in Portrush and got train from there to Coleraine. Very little time allocated for change over to other train in coleraine and you have to cross over bridge or take lift. Sit on the right hand side of the train travelling from Coleraine to Derry and visa versa on return. Wishing there was a viewing platform on the train so that one could get better photos. spectacular views. Loved it so much that we repeated the trip on another day. Derry city wonderful - people so friendly. Free shuttle bus to bus station over the bridge otherwise 15 minute walk which is nice

Out hotel was in Belfast so we did a daily pass - All transports were free within NI - It costs 18 GBP. With this pass we tool train from Colerine & went to Derry. The scenery is not possible to express in words. One should have this without any question.

I didn't think a train ride could be an attraction on its own right, but this stretch of railroad showed me it could. Lovely scenery all around - I felt like I wanted to jump off the train every minute to go and see things from even closer, but even from the train, it's magnificent, peaceful, and majestic.

Great trip, good carriage, fantastic scenery, the tunnel is under a folly made in the grounds of an old house, the surrounding area had to be reinforced to stop it falling into the sea. There is a bus to take you across to the city or you could walk the peace bridge in about 20/30 minutes

We were staying in Bushmills and caught a local bus to Coleraine. From there we jumped on the train to Londonderry/Derry. We had read various articles and reviews about this train trip, including Michael Palin declaring it one of the most beautiful train trips in the world. And I couldn't think of a better, more relaxing and stunning way to get to Londonderry/Derry. And so inexpensive. We could just sit back and relax and take in the spectacular scenery. Our train conductor was full of ideas and places to go to further our experience. Very comfortable train as well.

We were incredibly fortunate to do this trip during one of the best summers Ireland has had in 40 years. Crystal clear skies and the water was a myriad of colour. And then we had the green green mountains behind us. We took in golfers playing along the ocean edge. It was such a great trip. We were very happy to know we were doing a return trip as there was just so much to take in.

When we returned to Coleraine we took the bus back to Bushmills. This bus drove right along the coastline - magnificent coastal scenery. We could not believe that a local bus service and train service to treat us to such beauty and so cheaply. Beats a big bus tour anyday.

If it is a clear day this is a must do.

If you are lucky to park at the station car park it’s free!
Catch the train after 9.30am and the fare reduces by 1/3rd!
The journey is very scenic with water on one side and green country side on the other.
Our ticket inspector on the train was very friendly and was keen to recommend places to visit.
Once at Londonderry station there is a courtesy bus waiting to take you across the river, this drops you at the bus station where you can also get the bus back.
It’s a five minute walk to the Guildhall and also a gate onto the city walls.
The train was very clean and comfortable.

The track along the seaside is the highlight. The track also goes under the Mussenden Temple. On return trip sit on opposite side of carriage to see the view from a different perspective.

Decided to leave the car and take the train to Derry for our 2 day stay. It’s the best decision we could have made. The journey was relaxing and completely stress free.
The scenery was stunning along the way. WiFi was free onboard. When we got off in Derry there was a bus waiting. We hopped on and within minutes we were in the centre of Derry and a stones throw from our hotel. This bus is free.

The Derry to Coleraine and Belfast railway always comes up in lists of the Great Railway Journeys of the World and rightly so! Starting in Derry with lovely views of the Peace Bridge and Lough Foyle, the line follows the coast for a lot of the way, passing by the amazing Downhill Beach which is around 7 miles long. Trains run once every hour and the price is an incredibly cheap £12 for a single and £18.50 for a day return to Belfast (or £12.30 for a return leaving after 9.30am.
