Gight Wood lies on the steep, south facing slopes of the Ythan valley, forming the easternmost part of a series of woodlands and river grasslands.
Brooding over the woods at the downstream end is the ruin of Gight Castle, once the family home of Lord Byron.
From the carpark on the Methlick to Fyvie road its a pleasant walk through the woods to the open fields around Gight Castle and then onto the path that takes you down into the Ythan valley opposite the Braes of Gight.
