“A beautiful retreat in a beautiful town.”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

My friend and I were lucky enough to find Brambles Guest House in Inveraray, Scotland. Oh what a find. A beautiful, comfortable, warm and welcoming bed and breakfast. The bedrooms are large, the bathrooms modern and immaculate. And if that weren't enough, breakfast the following morning was utterly delicious. The menu is varied, the restaurant, a true bistro that functions as a full restaurant so you can browse the cute shops in Inveraray and then return to Brambles for a great lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return.

Accommodation was well kept, very spacious, clean and comfortable. Complimentary loose leaf tea was delicious. Breakfast in the Bistro was delightful with a great choice and really tasty. Excellent value for money compared to what we paid to stay in the George across the road the previous year.

Booked the room as it looked great on the web page. We were not let down one bit, both the bedroom and bathroom were extremely comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast in the Bistro was also excellent with a good choice and good service.
We arrived late in the evening and although the bistro was closed they provide you with a code to access a small key safe for the front door key.

Had a lovely time. It only has 4 rooms so it nice and quiet. The rooms are on the large side with lovely big bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable. I see from previous reviews some guests had a problem with noise outside. We didnt seem to have that problem. We stayed on a Saturday night so maybe no deliveries on a Sunday morning. The breakfast in the morning was great and plentiful and was served in the restaurant downstairs. Only slight disappointment was the restaurant was closed at night. This was not a problem because we had a lovely meal in The George across the street which also had entertainment on. Now we know The Brambles is their we will be booking again.

If you want a tranquil relaxing time.......................then don't stay here.

First night the Co-Op directly across the street had a delivery at 3 AM!!! The noise from the lorry's engine went on for what seemed like an eternity.

From around midnight on our second night, until approximately 2am, the noise from the street below was horrendous. People were literally shouting and screaming and cars were revving their engines: it was like carnival time! The following morning our very helpful young waitress exclaimed 'that's the George for you!' (Meaning the George Hotel over the street). It seemed as though this was a regular occurrence.

Having said all the above, if you don't mind being awake half the night, then this might be the place for you. The room was very large and comfortable and the bathroom was huge. The complimentary toiletries were lovely! The food at breakfast was plentiful and well cooked.

Had it not been for the noise, I would have rated my experience excellent.

I am sorry that your time at the guest house was disturbed by the delivery at a local shop and by noise after midnight in the main street.

We have investigated the delivery and it has been confirmed that it should not be made at this time in the morning.
On the issue of the street noise, which is not common, I can only assume that it was due to a festival that weekend ‘The Best of the West’ in Inveraray, which kept folk out and about for longer.

Thank you for commenting on your positive experiences at Brambles, such as the rooms, toiletries and breakfast and hope that the one off noise would not put you off visiting again.

The room itself was beautifully decorated with a large comfortable bed and a luxurious bathroom. The complimentary toiletries and refreshments were of a high quality and much appreciated.

Although the room was beautiful to look at, I found the creaking floors from the people staying above to be extremely irritating. I guess it's to be expected when staying in an old building but I didn't appreciate being woken up several times by other guests simply moving about. The Guest House is also on a fairly busy street and when lorries would come by, or park up outside to make deliveries, the room would often resonate quite loudly! None of these things will be problems to heavy sleepers but unfortunately were to me.

Despite the above, I found the staff to be friendly and the breakfast was simply outstanding. I would return but only if I could have a top floor room!

Many thanks for the feedback - and please accept my apologies for the fact that we have not managed to meet the expectations with regards to the floorboards.

We were unaware of this issue, so thank you for bringing it to our attention and we are investigating how it can be rectified.

Overall, you enjoyed the room and the outstanding breakfast and I do hope that you will return in the very near future.

We stayed in room2 which was big spacious and had a lovely roll top bath and separate shower. Breakfast was served in the café downstairs and the choose was really good. Brambles is in a great location in the village. Always got parking right outside.
