“Room with a view”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

The Corriemar Guest House is located just a bit west of the main High Street of Oban village in a row of similar accommodation - 3 story Victorian row houses facing the sea. We planned an overnight stay in Oban prior to taking the ferry to Mull and arrived without reservations. We checked a number of guest houses. The Corriemar was most reasonably priced. We were given a large top-floor room with a real kingsize bed. The room was spacious and well equipped. There was a daybed (so it could have accommodated 3 people) and in the large bay window, 2 armchairs to sit in and enjoy the panoramic view of the bay. The room was extremely clean and tidy although every nook and cranny in the Corriemar is filled with curios from sculptures and art to teddybears! The bathroom ensuite was on the small side but adequate. Lots of hot water. Toiletries were provided. The owner was extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants (The Seafood Temple was fantastic) and even called to make reservations for us. The location was close to all sights so that we could walk. There was parking available. Breakfast was served in the main floor diningroom - there was a full choice and it arrived quickly. On the main floor was a lounge forguests complete with highpower binoculars to watch the ships pass. We were lucky to find such a place - great sleep assured!

My wife and I stayed here en route to a wedding in Mull. Sandra was very accommodating at short notice - she stayed up late to greet us and in the morning made me a huge bowl of porridge (I was climbing Ben More that day !) It's a really friendly place and a beautidul old building with very comfortable rooms. The breakfast was superb. Service with a smile.
Very handy for the ferry too (5 minutes drive through the twon).

Room Tip: ask for the room with a view of the bay.

Nice location in a walking distance to the city center at the sea. Cosy old fashioned atmosphere. We had a pleasant stay with good sleep. The breakfast was delicious and more than enough and had to be ordered the previous night. Free parking although sometimes a little organising required.

We have just spent a few nights at the Corriemar, loved the room overlooking the bay and the decor of the room was very nice not your usual bland hotel room, it also had lots of wee curios that gave it a homely touch the 'boss' was off on holiday so hubby was promoted to 'head cook and bottle washer' and did a sterling job, the breakfasts we had were excellent (remember to choose it night before). The only slight downside was that the room was a wee bit cold on the first day but once the heating was on for a while it was ok, being a big high ceilinged room it took a while to heat up.
If you want something interesting and different to the travelodge experience then try here. We would certainly book it again when visiting Oban

We all had a fantastic stay in corriemar. Enjoyed the stunning sea view rooms, which I would highly recommend. The place is full of little, unneccesary collections, which I and especially our baby liked big time. Breakfast was great if you pick the right choice the evening before. Our first haggis - and we liked it! Sandra is maybe not hospitality in person, but we were prepared after some postings here and took it with humor. don´t expect long email-answers. Stuff was very helpful and facilities for the baby were in place (e.g. high chair).
Overall a very good experience, and if a bit cheaper I´d say excellent!

Room Tip: sea view deluxe

Owners were very easy going and apporoachable also very helpful to any questions we had. Stayed in one of the front rooms with a beautiful sea view. Great choice for breakfast in the morning. Very reasonable priced to be honest would of payed more. Highly recommend it and will definetly be going back.

Room Tip: any of the sea view rooms are value for money

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights on the September weekend. The owner was very friendly on arrival, and every time we met her, and other staff were also friendly. The room was great with fabulous sea views, very spacious, and a reasonable sized en-suite with shower cubicle. Room was well furnished, and suitable for the size and style. The breakfasts were good, with a varied selection apart from only orange juice. Plenty tea and toast was provided. Could not fault our stay, but maybe a 3 star, not 4. Would recommend to others. Situated on main road, and not on a side street, as other reviewer stated. Ample parking in front of building, and free street parking. About a 10 minute walk to town centre.

Room Tip: Ask for room with sea view, as Oban is a very busy port.
