We chose to stay at the Townhouse Hotel after reading good reviews on trip advisor. We’re so pleased that the reviews lived up to expectation.

The hotel was spotlessly clean, staff polite & professional and we were upgraded for free due to availability. It’s these gestures that make us want return to a place!

Our room was tastefully decorated, very spacious, with an en-suite bathroom and large mirrored sliding wardrobes. Tea, coffee making facilities were provided with some Scottish short bread biscuits.

We had a tasty two course evening meal in the Brasserie (we pre-booked this) and particularly enjoyed the cooked breakfast the next day. There is a good selection of food for breakfast including fresh fruit, fish, porridge & fruit juices.

Melrose itself is a small, quaint place with surprisingly lots to do including hill-walking, National Trust gardens and the Abbey.

We would like to thank all the staff for a wonderful stay at the hotel. We hope to return soon.

We also stayed on two mid-week nights under the 'Mad March' Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offer. It was great value. We do not normally stay in town centre accommodation preferring something more secluded, but found it very appealing to walk out of the hotel onto the pretty main street with its specialist shops and within easy walking distance of attractions. Despite its location, the hotel was quiet and relaxing. Our superior room was spacious, stylish and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner menus were varied and the food prepared to a high standard. All our meals were delicious and served with a smile. In all we had a great time. The Townhouse is better than many four star hotels we have stayed in. We will definitely return.

We stayed 2 mid-week nights at the Townhouse Hotel, taking advantage of their 'Mad March' Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offers.
The hotel is certainly to be recommended - at the top end of the 3-star category, complemented by being in the nice Borders town of Melrose. The decor throughout was pristine, possibly not long refurbished, the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.
What really made the stay enjoyable and memorable was the food, which was excellent. The dinner menu was extensive, very well presented and served, with a wide and reasonably-priced choice of wines, by the glass and the bottle. The breakfast was also of a high standard, good ingredients nicely cooked.
There is nothing negative to say about the Townhouse - we enjoyed our stay, as will others.

After a long and challenging escape driving out of Edinburgh, we headed down the A86 to the beautiful village of Melrose. Situated in the stunningly beautiful Borders region of Scotland, this small affluent village captured our hearts! There's really just one small main street and The Townhouse Hotel is directly across the street from another family owned hotel named Burts. The Townhouse was recommended to us by a local relative as being a better value, so we booked a room there. It was lovely, clean and well appointed. AND the restaurant knocked our socks off at dinner! Who knew that we would encounter such finely prepared and interesting food in Scotland!? Richard had the Roasted lamb rump with rosemary potatoes, and a red wine reduction. I had the Scottish salmon with a green pea risotto and pea shoots salad. The grand finale was a trio of homemade ice creams from Over Langshaw Farm, just a few miles down the road. Kudos to executive chef Trevor Williams and the very capable Barry Owen, who made our dinner that evening!
