“Relaxation at it's best!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

We stayed at Castle Venlaw at the end of March + thoroughly enjoyed ourselves- our only regret was that we could't stay longer. The castle is warm +welcoming as are the owners + staff.
Our room was beautifully appointed with a thoroughlly modern bathroom en-suite. Old world charm by the bucket load without old world draughts +lumpy matresses (our bed was so comfy
we could easily have over-slept!!) The sun was shining on our arrival + we enjoyed drinks on the lawn -later we had dinner + enjoyed a really nice evening -staff were attentive without being
intrusive.Food was excellent + very reasonably priced.Breakfast also provided lots of choices +
our indulgent "full Scottish" went down a treat. We are looking to return to this "gem" of a hotel
at the first opportunity + cannot recommend it highly enough -relaxation-relaxation-relaxation !!!

From the initial drive up the hill to the first view of the castle, we where never let down. Its a telling fact that it is family owned and not a chain as all the staff where so helpful and the personal touch was the icing on the cake. The room was beautiful yet modern and the view was spectacular. The food was very nice and again the staff where brilliant without encroaching on invasive. Not only would I recommend the hotel but we will be staying again!

Room Tip: The Glennturret sweet was the room we stayed in!

This hotel was booked by my partner for a night away and he did very well. The hotel itself is warm and welcoming, the bedroom was spotless and the bed very comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was also to be recommended. The meal cost just over £60 for two of us with drinks and we found that to be very good value for money.
The four poster room was the perfect romantic venue. Only complaint, the rooms were slightly too warm for us overnight. Enjoy this as much as we did.

Room Tip: The four poster room had a view and an amazingly comfortable bed

I first stayed at Castle Venlaw last year. It was booked by an agency for me. It was brilliant. Then due to appalling management it all went downhill. But now, with new ownership, it is the best kept secret in Midlothian. I wouldn`t stay anywhere else. The owners and staff are fantastic. So much so that I although all my stays are on business, I will be taking my wife later in the year. A round trip of about 300 miles. If you are visiting the area, you shouldn`t stay anywhere else. Excellent food and a genuine warm welcome.

Mick

Myself and my wife returned to Castle Venlaw in April 2011 for our Wedding Anniversary having been married at the same venue a few years before. Whilst I agree with some of the other comments that the decor and amenities have not moved on for a few years, we still had a fantastic time. The primary reason for this being that the management couple at the time treated my wife and I like royalty all through our stay. Also the restaurant was again fantastic.

We booked into this hotel for a two night break. We were the only couple there on the first night but the owners made us feel so welcome and could not have been more accommodating. We booked dinner and when we went down every candle on all the tables were lit even though we were the only couple in there which was a wonderful and romantic touch. Same for breakfast...everything was laid out as though there were more guests there, it was brilliant. Music and 'real' butter with a little pot of cream with my Porridge, there was also home made jam and marmalade...yummy. We stayed in the Turret room which was just magical! No expense was spared on anything in the hotel from the cutlery and decor to the food. Unfortunately we did not get to see the grounds as we had made other plans but we plan on visiting again in the summer so we will explore then. The drive up to the Castle was exciting, it added to the atmosphere and there was plenty of parking. Overall, there is not one bad thing to be said about the hospitality, quality and friendliness we recieved whilst staying at Castle Venlaw......truley magnificant and magical....deserves 10 stars !!!Thank you to you both for such a lovely time. Yes it is up a old track but stick with it - its worth it. We had originally booked via the Groupon offer which went pearshaped. However we rebooked and stayed in the amazing Glenturret Suite. The double bath with champagne cooler and twinkly lights are just magical. The Food was TERRIFIC. Great quality. If we stayed close enough we would definitely go just for a meal. Peebles people give it a go!!!!

The NEW owners are so nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Please note that this hotel is under new management and they are working SO hard at updating the decor - the dining room is just lovely as is the library bar. It already looks better than it did and I'm sure that this will continue. We would definintely go back.

Room Tip: If it is a special occasion - book the Glenturret Suite. Its worth it.
