“The boathouse a place of tranquility”

Had a fabulous week at the boathouse. An ideal, location for a tranquil and relaxing winter break. Everything perfect, lovely, clean and warm. Shona was a delight to deal with, nothing too much trouble and it was nice being able to have our gorgeous little Abbie shitzhu with us.
This is definitely on our holiday cottage list for future stays.

“Fantasic accomodation in brilliant location”

Perfect holiday home with a great view overlooking the estuary. Our family spent many evenings watching the tide coming in, keeping warm with the chimenea! There's was plenty of room for 5 of us and 2 dogs. Its very close to the town centre and Kirkcudbright is a beautiful village.

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?
How easy was key pickup/access to the property?

“A fabulous find!”
Reviewed 8 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Thankfully when we searched for a dog-friendly, wheelchair accessible property with minimum 2 bathrooms The Boathouse popped up! What a find! Finished to a high spec, spacious and with lovely views! Shona was very helpful prior to booking, describing the property so that we were happy my Dad would manage despite being less mobile than the rest of the party. The bathrooms are lovely and all of the bedrooms have views of the estuary. A visit (or 2 or 3) to The Castle Street Bistro is a must too and The Masonic Arms is a great place for the pre-dinner drink!

Thank you for your review. Glad you had a good time at the Boathouse and that you enjoyed your dip in the sea. Better book early for next summer to avoid disappointment now you've let everyone know about the place!

“5* - Stunning home and stunning location - The Kirkcudbright Boathouse”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

The Boathouse is located in wonderful setting looking out over the River Dee and over the Marina and harbour in Kirkcudbright. Birds (Heron, Shag & Sand Martins etc), tides sweeping in and out even the occasional Otter are to be viewed every day. The world seems to sail by the huge terrace looking out over the river/marina. The Boathouse has everything you could wish for in a home and will cope easily with large family of 6-8 or friends seeking a holiday in a 'smashing home' and in a wonderful friendly town - Kirkcudbright - 3 bathrooms must give this another uniquely positive aspect.
Clean, modern facilities and two outside areas to help you enjoy a BBQ in the courtyard or drinks on the terrace. Shona (the owner) is helpful, informative and keeps the place immaculate. Give yourselves a treat and try out the Castle Bistro for dinner just a short 100 metre walk away. The Boathouse is certainly a place that many people will return to again and again - as we will.

Thank you for your fantastic review. Glad to hear you enjoyed bird-watching from the refurbished jetty. Kirkcudbright is indeed a very friendly town with a good choice of restaurants - one for each night of the week, in fact, for those who want a rest from cooking!

The three bedrooms and 2 lounges all have a view direct on to the tidal estuary. The three bathrooms each have a loo and a shower. The Co-op supermarket is less than 5 minutes walk away. It's a very bright, comfortable and convenient dwelling and is an excellent place to unwind.
Our 3 night stay inevitably seemed too brief, and we would love to return, but with all these entirely justified 5-star reviews, I fully expect demand to grow...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your short break. The summer weeks do get booked up quite quickly and we generally do short breaks from Nov. to March only but occasionally we accept them in summer. Keep an eye on the News and Offers page of the Boathouse website for details.

“The thrill of the tides is mesmerising”
Reviewed 1 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

The boathouse is stunning.
Right in the centre of Kirkcudbright, tucked away down a narrow pend (private lane) with back courtyard and a terrace virtually on the River Dee it is full of drama. At low tide the banks of the River Dee display their subtle contours of mud and the multitude of feeding waders who seize their chance to feed at low tide. At high tide the river is nearly up to the terrace and the members of the fishing fleet, of mostly scallop dredgers, seize their opportunity to leave the harbour to fish at sea, passing close by the windows of the Boathouse.
With three bedrooms and a sofa bed in a second living room, together with one en-suite bathroom and two other bathrooms it really is accommodation in comfort for 8 people.
I would like to go back again and again.
