Stayed for three nights recently. Owners very welcoming; upgraded from a single to a double en suite at no extra cost. Clean, warm and comfortable with tea/coffee/tv facilties. Excellent breakfast sets you up for the entire day. Very convenient for a range of nearby eateries - the adjacent Balmoral and 5-Star hotels do good-value tasty bar meals. Would definitely stay again if in area.

I stay in Moffat on business every few weeks, usually at short notice.

My usual hotel couldn't accommodate me on the day so I rang the Bonnington as I knew it had just reopened after being shut for a while. The rate was acceptable for a double for single occupancy and because of a motorway delay I arrived late at night.

The owners were very welcoming and showed me to my room on the top floor. I was advised that the macerator toilet was noisy - heck it was! I never flushed the loo again till I was checking out.

About 2.00 in the morning I awoke to find my bed soaking wet. It transpired that underneath the mattress protector and pillowcases were plastic sheets, like you would put in a cot. I removed them, moved to the other side of the bed and got back to sleep.

In the morning I was asked by the owners how I slept. I said ok except for the plastic mattress covers. The owner agreed they were awful but they had to had to have them, quite why I don't know.

When asked if I would like a full breakfast I agreed but asked for no black pudding, instead I was served haggis with my bacon and egg. I don't mind haggis on a Burns Supper once a year but not for breakfast when I've specifically asked for no black pudding.

On checking out I went to pay the bill only to be told they don't accept cards. Why?

Room Tip: The top floor is a long way up with no lift.

Enjoyed my stay there very much and it was good value. as a solo traveler it can be difficult finding a room at the right price, . I was there for a total of 4 nights 3 nights were over the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May. Paul & Lesley made me feel very welcome that it felt like every day was a bank holiday. Everything about our stay at the Bonnington was first class. This began with a warm welcome before being shown to our large room, which was nicely furnished. After a good nights sleep we were once again welcomed to the dinning room to be served with a large breakfast of good quality ingredients. We will hopefully be able to enjoy further nights at this great value B&B in the not too distant future.
