For Lunch... Looking around other tables as we entered, we knew exactly what we'd get - pub grub. In fact we both ordered fish and chips. Battered fish was creamy and tasty with a super light and crisp batter. The food choice is a tad better than the average pub grub, but it's no gastro-pub. It's not trying to be either. Prices are more than decent and they have a good selection of meals and specials on the board. For what it is, it's highly Recommended.

Stayed just one night to break a journey. Single room spotless, shower room immaculate looked new. Real milk in the fridge for a cuppa. Breakfast in the bar a bit odd but very nice.

My wife and I decided to break our journey to Dunoon in Moffat; we pre-booked the Balmoral for our night’s stay. We were absolutely delighted with our room(s) as stated in other reviews there were two, a sitting room with a large couch, large screen TV and a small kitchen area with kettle and small fridge. Plenty of coffee and tea as well as a large barrel of assorted biscuits, in the fridge there were two bottles of Highland Spring water and a jug of fresh milk, there was even a vase of fresh flowers on the mantelpiece. The bedroom was of a good size with a very comfortable bed and another TV. The bathroom was freshly done out excellent shower and washing facilities.
We ate in the bar in the evening, the meal was most enjoyable and what made the evening was interacting with the locals who frequented the Balmoral. Breakfast the next morning was taken in the same room which was delicious and plentiful.
Establishments with much higher star ratings would be hard pushed to provide this sort of accommodation.
We will be back as soon as...

This hotel was great, really clean and spacious rooms, although my single room was a bit cosy, 2 of the other double rooms were huge with a seperate living room. The Devonian manager was very nice and helpful even though he seemed to be running the hotel on his own. The food was very good, evening meal and breakfast. I would definitly stay there again.

Room Tip: A double in main building

A very nice hotel, very good value for money as we got a large room with a separate sitting room/kitchenette for only £65! Would recommend dinner as well, especially the desserts which were enormous! Good breakfast with coffee/tea, orange juice, cereal and toast plus a good choice of main dish cooked for you!
Only drawback was massive spiderweb over shower...

We booked by telephone to break our return journey from Iona; a bit disconcerted not to have had any confirmation, but we got a warm welcome on a busy Saturday afternoon. We too had a separate sitting area in our refurbished, well equipped room with an excellent shower. Our daughter had a good single room, up quite a few stairs, but nice and quiet.
The bar was very busy when we went for our meal, but they found us a table before not too long and we liked the food. We found the decor a bit dark and dreary, but the service was efficient and friendly, also for the breakfast which suited us fine.

Room Tip: Although our room 10 was at the back, we were still a bit disturbed by roistering that Saturday nigh...
