The location was superb just off the Royal Mile and on the street below the castle. Great views of the castle every time you stepped out of the door. The staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help.
My room was fantastic I stayed in a 12 bed female only dorm, the rooms are themed and mine was the Mr Men room. You get a key for your room and locker, the front desk is always staffed. The locker was a good size. There was plenty of space due to the bunk beds being around the edge of the room and it was really bright. The beds were great the mattress was a little hard but not uncomfortable, each bed had a light and a double socket which was really handy. probably the best thing about the beds was that you could sit up without banging your head (unless you were tall)!
The common rooms were a good size although I only used the main one. Free tea, coffee and hot chocolate was handy. There was a wide range of activities for the evening I went to the pub quiz (third place only 2 points between us and first) and Scottish dancing. There was stuff like pool, pub crawl and movie nights (there was a movie room, never went in).
The bathrooms were clean (apart from showering straight after someone with long hair), plenty of toilets on my floor, there was always soap and toilet paper.
The kitchen was big and had plenty of ovens, hobs and fridges there was also kettles, microwaves and plenty of crockery. There were tables in the kitchen, and space to store dry food on shelves.
The hostel was decorated with suits of armour and painted walls. I will definitely not hesitate in staying again!!

Room Tip: There are loads of stairs and no lift so make sure you can carry your bag up flights of stairs

This hostel provides everything you need, from a central location, views of the Edinburgh castle, awesome staff, great facilities including 4 common areas and a kitchen. The hostel provides a basic breakfast for a small amount of money and runs activities, as well as screens two movies each night, catering for everyone and their individual interests. I participated in the Free ghost tour, the Scottish dancing and the Free pub crawl, all of which were awesome fun and well organised. Great hostel to stay in, especially as a solo traveller :D

The hostel location is amazing! The rooms were good size and clean. Staff were helpful and friendly even when they had to drill my locker open because I lost my key! Very kind! Charges for towels etc were really cheap , would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beds are kinda gross and the breakfast is a very limited selection but for £1.50 it’s very good! The staff are very friendly and the hostel has a really nice vibe. The building is really beautiful and they have different lounges you can pick from

The location, the price, the decor, the activities... this place is amazing with a view of the Edinburgh Castle. Scottish dancing, pub crawls, ghost tours, pool competition, etc. All for free! Cheap breakfast was decent too. We were in the 16 bed dorm and everything was clean and I was surprised that people were actually considerate and followed the rules which made it nice for those who wanted to sleep. If you wanted to party you could just stay in the longues and many did. Such a cool place!
