Fantastic

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 7, 2024via mobile
Stayed 3 days 2 nights and it wasn’t long enough.

The hotel is set in impressive grounds. You will need a car. It’s miles out of the way, albeit only 10 mins to the airport. But if you stay here, just stay in and soak up the excellent food, well furnished rooms, nice cosey arm chairs in the lounge or the superb spa and lounge that makes up the complex. Staff were great and honestly, i don’t think I could find fault even if I tried. Bathrooms big with walk in shower and a large bath, with a TV to watch I kid you not. Most rooms have balconies or a small garden area to sit out on. Mini bar with water and fresh milk to make tea or coffee. Ironing board in room. And well maintained and very clean.
Date of stay: September 2024
Room Tip: Breakfast is amazing, take your time to enjoy it properly.

My husband and I are finishing our 2 week trip in Scotland and I chose this hotel at the end because of its beauty and reviews! I prepaid for our stay in 2nd largest suite, and 2 full body massages! The hotel is beautiful, exceptional grounds, and everyone was so nice especially the staff in the restaurant! EXCEPT THE Front DESK!!! Upon our arrival, the front desk girl was unfriendly, never once smiled! The second day here, a new girl was there, as I was coming down the stairs, I said good morning, she looked up and no return greeting! Last nighthere, I went to ask the front desk if I was correct by completing the card for breakfast to be served in our room, a heavy set gentleman was there , when I asked him l, he was rude, curt and never even looked at me! I was upset with his attitude, so I mentioned that there has been a tray sitting outside the suite next to us for 2 days! His response was, " yeah we'll get to it! "
Really??? With the " Hand Picked" signature, they may want to look at their front desk employees! My husband is in the hospitality industry for 5 star hotels and he was disappointed!
If you are going to be in this category of hotels, then retrain your FD staff! They are the first point of contact to your guests!!!

Thank you for posting your review Cruiser49036860442. I was disappointed to read your remarks about our Reception team. We will reflect on the way that we made you feel. Our team have all been with us for many years and delight in making each guests stay memorable. We spend a long time teaching the team to mirror our guests enthusiasm and reflecting the energy they bring to the hotel. Treating each interaction as a something that can be taken as a snapshot of an entire stay and ruin it. They are acutely aware of how they can be judged in a fraction of a seemingly routine encounter based on how the rest of the days events have evolved. I am sorry that we did not make you feel as cared for as we should have and we will do better. Thank you for visiting Norton.
Best regards
Michael

Excellent hotel, with friendly, efficient staff who made you feel nothing was a problem. Bedroom was lovely. My bathroom even had a tv over the bath. I had dinner and breakfast both of which was excellent. Amenities at the hotel are great with a small but lovely and clean swimming pool.

It is rather odd to get to this hotel passing through an industrial area, being so close to the airport (10-15min car) and yet arriving in a countryside type of environment with sheeps and trees. An oasis of tranquility close to the airport. Perfect!
Large indoor pool with steam and sauna rooms. Large hot tube with jets. Good for relaxing after driving. Only negative point, it is with an outdoor access only, if it is cold or rainy, cover yourself and DO not got there in slippers!
Staff is overall nice and smiling, especially our housekeeping lady, the lady upon check out and the bellman upon arrival.
Rooms are large enough to be comfy and well equipped. Complementary still water and a small milk in the minibar (empty otherwise). Bathrooms with separate shower. All good.
Breakfast ok, neither exceptional nor dissapointing. We did not have the time to try the A la carte part, pity.
The diner was not as positive. The restaurant is not cosy and has a cold overall feeling, lacking of decor and finishing touches. Looking more like a cafeteria than a nice dining room (same place for Bkfst and pretty much same set up), despite some prices on the high end.
I was advised wrongly re soft drinks at the beginning (re content size) and staff brought twice the same drink to me. They forgot my starter and brought the main directly. Some obvious miscommunication.
We had a fish and a rib eye, both very nicely cooked but both with disappointing sides/sauce (too salty or too much vinegar in salad). It put us off ordering desserts.
Overall a good address for a night before or after your plane.

The whole atmosphere is one of attentive, friendly hospitality from registration to checkout. Every team member seemed to be genuinely interested in ensuring my stay was perfect. The Spa team went over and above to change an appointment for me. The room (Classic) in the main house overlooked the grounds and had everything in it I needed. Excellent toiletries and hospitality tray. Meal in the restaurant was first class, as was a dinner in the conservatory. Good choice for breakfast. The grounds are lovely for taking walks and I love the Fairy Wood! The building, spa and grounds are lovely but it is the attitude of the team which makes this so special. There wasn't anything not to like.

Room tip: The hotel is a little way out of Edinburgh but it is so peaceful and in lovely grounds it provides a haven from a busy city.

Dear453janen.
Thank you so much for your most kind words about the team and our hotel. We are so pleased you enjoyed everything. The Gardens really are in the summer peak just now. The wildflowers fragrance just fills the air on an evening stroll round the grounds.

Lovely hotel & spa but in a strange place. It is set in the middle of an industrial trading estate, so to begin with we were a bit put off driving through but once you're there you don't notice anything untoward.
Lovely room and bathroom although a little tired.
Fabulous breakfast, evening meal was also very good but extremely expensive as were the drinks.
Very nice spa area but walking outside to get to it in the winter months could be an issue.

Thank you for posting your super review EssexJax
We are so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves whilst you were here.
For the viewers at home, we are set in the middle of our own 55 acre parkland estate surrounded by woodland and wildflower meadows. with views of Edinburgh in the distance. Not in the middle of an industrial trading estate. But you do need to drive through other places to get to us. There are 2 entrances to the estate. Please set you sat nav to the entrance on the A8 for the entrance along our half mile tree lined drive.
Best regards
Michael
