“The Observatory Experienced.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2012

I was part a Church Study Group visit to the R.O. on 19.4.2012 on a dull evening, but the experience was far from dull with two excellent guides, and even though the giant telescope does not work, the views of the galaxy on computer after the view of the city from the roof-top was a sparkling experience. It seems strange that the R.O. does not have even a small telescope for visitors, but it was fascinating to learn of the production on site of lens etc for use throughout the world. Congratulations and a big thanks. Completed the evening with an excellent supper at 'Sambuca', a fine Italian restaurant,on Causewayside on the return to the city centre.

“A celestial experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2012

Apart from the very interesting and educational exhibits there's an opportunity to see stars, or planets. Plus some excellent views over east and southeast Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills. Enjoyed it.

“Beautiful views, beautiful stars”

Fascinating place, Blackford Hill is lovely - looks over Arthur's Seat. The Observatory is a gorgeous old Victorian building and a wonderful experience (if you like astronomy).

“Great views and a good treck”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2011

Nice was to spend a few hours, if you walk from Westmains Rd, you can treck you way up, a small easy hill and plenty of views.
Close by you can also look at the BRAID HILLS, BLACKFORD POND and the HERMITAGE.
blackford pond is rather lovely with swans and ducks and nice foliage.
