My partner and I stayed at this hotel at the end of February this year. After reading the reviews on here we were aware that there were not many carparking spaces and decided to fly from the midlands and get a taxi from the airport. The transfer was great and even at rush hour the taxi was very reasonable.

Now to the hotel. We arrived at the hotel with very friendly staff at reception ready and waiting to assist. The receptionist explained everything to us, told us how to get to our room and assisted with our questions.
The hotel itself was clean, inviting and very well organised.

Our room was on the 6th floor and although the seals around the window were broken and a little wind noise came in, you could tell that they had done everything they could to reduce the noise by fitting heavy set curtains which did help. The bathroom and toilet were seperate with no basin in the WC. Whilst we thought this a little odd, it was not a major issue. The minibar was stocked with a variety of soft drinks, beer and snacks however the price list was missing. I was most impressed with the coffee machine as was my partner. Nice touch to have that as well as the kettle and range of drinks available.

The breakfast in the dining area was standard for hotels, continental and full english/scottish with a range of fruit juices, cereals, yoghurts etc. I thought the £13.95 price tag was a bit steep considering we could have had it for £6.99 if we booked it at the same time as the room. When we mentioned this to the receptionist on check out they were happy to discount the price down to £8.50 so it wasn't all bad. The hotel bar was very nice and open late, prices were typical of hotels. Recommend you have 'one for the road' though as it comes as a little shock when you check out and the bar tab needs paying :-(

Unfortunately, on check out, we forgot the Champagne we had brought for our wedding in May. We called the hotel and they were more than happy to keep it for us as we were going to the highlands for a week. At the end of this week, we didnt fancy going back through Edinburgh on the way home as its 2 hours out of th way so we called the hotel and they were happy to post it to us. They called to arrange the best place to return it to and to arrange payment for the postage. When it arrived they had made every effort to ensure the bottles were not damaged by bubblewrapping and packaging as much as possible.

All in all I can say I was presently surprised by this hotel and would definately return without hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the castle, we had one of the Premier Inn next door :-/

I had only visited Edinburgh for the first time at Christmas (on pleasure), when I found myself back there on business at the end of February.

Our client booked me into the Novotel Edinburgh Centre.

I doubt it would have been my choice, but it's pretty close to the Castle and about 10 minutes walk to Princes Street. That said, some of the local streets (including nearby Lauriston St, with a number of lap-dancing clubs - You might see this as a plus) aren't particularly appealing, so you may not want to wander around them late at night.

The hotel, though, was pretty good. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, my room was roomy and comfortable and I had a great night's sleep.

I ate a snack meal in the bar in the evening which was surprisingly good and reasonably priced, especially for a hotel. In the morning, the buffet breakfast was fresh and hot and there was plenty of choice of fruits, cereals, juices, yoghurts, etc.

There's a small pool downstairs and, I believe, a fitness centre (I didn't see this), which I would have used had I checked first.

Everything appears very new and clean.

Overall, the Novotel is a good hotel for a short stay in Edinburgh and I'd be quite happy to stay there again.

stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from 19th feb,i managed to get a good deal which helps.
the hotel is well placed to visit all the attractions edinburgh has to offfer,if you're really lucky you may get one of the hotels executive rooms with a great view of the castle.
the hotel has some gym/pool facilities, the gym consists of four machines ie treadmill, there is a small pool with a jacuzzi,steam/sauna rooms, i found the jacuzzi to be over chlorined so didn't spend much time in,the pool plays host to a mothers a babies group several times a week so check with reception beforehand or you will be surrounded by screaming babies.
the hotel bar is nice, serving a good selection of drinks, you can also order food at the bar which we did on our first night, we shared a couple of platters which were ok except for the limp salad, this was pionted out to a member of staff who apologised and offered us a free drink (which we excepted),the hotel also has a restaraunt.
Our room was spacious with all the amenities you needed, the layout though was a bit strange,in that the toilet was separate from the shower/bathroom,which meant after using the toilet you had to go into another room to wash your hands.
Check out from the hotel is at midday which was a great help due to time of our depating train.
All in all we had a good stay for the price we paid and would return if we got the same deal

Had a lovely stay here, very central and easy walking distance to shops, castle etc. Rooms are pretty standard, straight forward but everything you need, so if it's luxury or opulence look elsewhere. Mini bar and safe in the superior room though I don't think it is worth the extra to pay for it.
Good to have bar there too and very attentive and helpful male Scottish waiter( Clarke Kent look a like!), who made effort to make conversation.
We forgot our swim costumes but would have loved to have tried the jacuzzi and pool ,though the smell of chlorine was very pugent at times as the pool is close to reception area with steps leading down to it.
All in all good value for money and breakfast has something for everyone which will set you up for the day.
