“Fantastic from the moment we walked in!”

As soon as you open the door you know you are somewhere special, would not believe you are only a few yards from a main city street, spotlessly clean with the fire on leaves you not wanting to go out again, the owner could not have been more helpful, would love to go back again sometime.

“Amazing & atmospheric lodgings”

We stayed at the Castle Snug last weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday. The correspondence with the owner was excellent prior to our stay and he sent through great directions so we could easily find it when we arrived. It was a short walk up the hill from the airport shuttle bus stop. The location was excellent, right on the royal mile and only a 5 minute walk to the castle. Plus the open top bus tour stopped on the other side of the road. Loads of good places to eat within a 10min walk. The room was really well furnished and the fire / stove was very atmospheric at night. The owners had left some tea / coffee and milk for us as well as some biscuits and fudge which were appreciated by us and the kids. The bathroom had been recently refurbished and was very modern and like the rest of the place very clean. On the whole we had a fantastic time and we would recommend it to anyone thinking of travelling either with other adults or kids.

“A Unique Experience”

Me and my girlfriend came here the day before valentines day, and it was something different. It was romantic having our own wee castle for the night. It has everything we needed in it, a pub next door and shops out on the main street. It wasn't too far from the train station either. I'd definitely stay here again.

The location of this charming, snug mini-apartment couldn't be more perfect, the kitchen is great, the amazing hidden bed is comfy and the interior is magical. It's super clean, very welcoming when you arrive (esp the fudge), while small it's not cramped at all and the owners were incredible helpful every step of the way. We've been twice now and we'll keep returning for years!

The only thing that stops me wanting to say how wonderful this property is is that I want to keep it to myself! It feels like such a amazing secret, a perfect little cosy den, and somewhere that is so magical and unusual, that you almost don't want it to get out.

So, so lovely, such a great location, so unique, and such great, friendly, warm owners.

“Snug, cosy - the most perfect location”

My partner and I stayed at here at exactly the same time last year - this time we brought another couple to share in the magic of The Castle Snug. Comfy, warm and completely appointed this apartment is ideal for any type of Edinburgh stay. Brian, the owner, was on hand to sort out any requests we had. His best bit of advice was to park our car on the outskirts of Edinburgh and either catch a bus or taxi into town. Saved us a fortune on city centre parking! Wonderful entertainment of any kind on your doorstep - try the Devils Advocate for dinner, The Stand for comedy, The Jazz club, Nobles in Leith for lovely service and drinks, The Dome for WOW factor or take one of the many walks on offer - we did Arthurs seat and Calton Hill. I love Edinburgh and in some part that is due to The Castle Snug... we will 100% be back again. Thanks x

After reading the other reviews I was expecting far more from this stay. While it is in a great location it was not the romantic venue I had read about. The beds were really uncomfortable and the bathroom looks like it was last decorated in the 80's. I think it could be a great venue if it had an overhaul in terms of decoration, it just looks so tired. My boyfriend and I very disappointed, not the luxurious, romantic stay we were expecting! Also, behind the snug it appears to be a dumping ground for local businesses, there were boxes piled up.

Management Response
4 Feb 2016
Hi Juliet, thanks you very much for your feedback and sincere apologies if everything in the Snug did not meet your expectations.
Regarding the cardboard boxes outside, the local Council have for some reason removed all of the bins from the Courtyard, leaving the shops to arrange uplift of their cardboard packaging. The collections are twice weekly which was creating a problem at busy times. We raised your issue with them and made them aware of the negative feedback and as a result, they have now erected a storage shed ( out of site of the Snug's window ) to house the cardboard until collection days.
We were aware that the bathroom was looking a bit dated ( but hopefully spotlessly clean :-) ) but found it very difficult to find a long enough period between bookings to undertake the work fully. It was taken on board fully and we closed the Snug for bookings from January 21st and the 4th of February 2016 to install a beautiful new bathroom. A returning guest arrived at 3pm today and will be the first to enjoy the shiny new bathroom.
If you find yourself back in Edinburgh at any time in the future, please do contact us so that we can let you see the the improvements that your valued feedback prompted.
Very best wishes,
Brian & Christine.
