Harry and Shirley are just amazing! What a wonderful couple and warm welcome we received!
They are pleased to help you and give very good advice.
The location is excellent (10 min from the station, right in the city centre), rooms are nice and clean and breakfast is delicious.
Without a doubt, the perfect place for a citytrip in Edinburgh!

The location is really good, within walking distance to most attractions. The staff was helpful, the room was clean (except for window) and breakfast was nice and hearty with a good selection.

The room I stayed in lacked a bedside table to put my glasses and alarm clock on, and the quality of furniture and sink was not that good (the taps were loose and I discovered a minor leak last evening), but those are minor issues. The window(s) towards the street needs some sealing (or preferably an inner window) to reduce traffic noise and that black dust around the window.

Most of my issues are related to a single room, so hopefully I will be able to get another room next time.

The B&B is located only 5 mins walk from the railway station. Upon you reach the outside of the guesthouse, you would have to walk about 40 steps to the reception. So only if you are physically fit this is the best choice for you. Harry is certainly a very friendly and helpful owner, i was introduced to many attraction like the holyrood and the parliament house, which really enhances my knowledge of Scotland. My room is a single room (double bed) with own private toilet outside, so i was given the key for the toilet. Basically i would be the only person able to access the toilet. For breakfast, the room is elegant and quiet, there is a wide range of continental and hot breakfast choices. I chose the scramble egg with smoke salmon and was really amazed about the big size of the breakfast which i could hardly finish because it's just too big!!! Definitely would come back if I have a chance to visit edinburgh.

I liked - the location - very central, about 2 minutes walk from Princes Street and Waverley Bridge (airport bus stop), the full Scottish breakfast, the bowls of sweets in the hallway. The rooms were clean, staff efficient and knowledgeable. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits in the room. Adequate heating, clean bathroom with good shower.
I didn't like - the 3 flights of stairs to get to the rooms (this guest house is not suitable if you have mobility problems) especially with heavy luggage but that was a minor inconvenience. My room didn't have a blackout curtain so if you are the type to be woken up by daylight then bring an eye mask. I wore earplugs so can't comment on the noise. My room was also on the small side but for one person it was fine.

The Elder York Guest House is located next to the St. James shopping mall and close to St. Andrews Suare and Princess Street. You can reach High Street (the main street in Edinburgh) in just 10 Minutes walk. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is really good and they offer even a vegetarian version of full scottish breakfast. Close by are also very nice Cafes and Restaurants. I can fully recommend this place.
