“Monday night blues”
Reviewed 6 June 2012

Really looking forward to dinner at this 5 star facility especially as the owners are highly respected within the industry and for the quality of their facilities. But this mid may Monday evening experience was not the best. I did not expect loud pop music drowning conversation or Tattooed fellow diners in t shirts and jeans or waitresses who could not explain the menu. I did not expect the floor of the gents toilets located by the cocktail bar to be swimming in urine and waste water.(probably because the design of the stainless steel trough is set too high and spills the flush water). The pre dinner cocktails were good, the menu comprehensive but very expensive( all main courses £20 with additional charge for side orders. The all inclusive Market menu at £16.50 for two courses offered a cheaper alternative. The food was excellent.
Post 9'o'clock, the lighting was dimmed and classical jazz replaced pop music creating a much more pleasant atmosphere.
However, left with feeling that this facility caters for the corporate market and the flash-cash brigade. Long way to go to meet the standards set by hotel-du-vin.

Blythswood Square looks like a lovely hotel, but their customer service is definitely lacking. There were problems form the beginning when the reservations team were awkward and annoyingly inefficient. It took 4 phone calls and several emails to organise a two night stay! There were no robes in our room and the turn down service was missed on both nights. The restaurant did serve delicious food from both its set and a la carte menus but the dining room was just too small, with our table being only 1 foot away from the couples on either side. This made the service awkward and it impossible for anyone to enjoy their meal without hearing the conversations of the people next to them.
The majority of the staff were very friendly and accommodating which brightened the experience. The Spa was also excellent but in its self that is not enough to make me consider returning.

We stayed for one night at this hotel, having stayed at other Townhouse properties in Edinburgh. (Try the Edinburgh Residence) The hotel has been beautifully renovated and the public areas are lovely. The bedrooms are stylishly completed, but they are very dark. I know the lighting is ambient, but I would have appreciated one bright light near a mirror! The beds, however, are lovely and comfy. We ate lunch in the restaurant and it was good value (the market menu) and nice, but not fantastic. Service was generally very good, but the some of the bar staff could be more helpful. Overall, I would recommend and we would definitely stay here again.

Thats pretty much it, nothing to comment on to detract from this great hotel. The rooms are amazing, I have never seen that much marble before! Showers great, beds great, food great, staff great - it was great.

Went for late night drinks to the salon but empty glasses on tables and staff slow to clear (even the staff in suits ? Manager) No offer of a glass with the beer. Drinks expensive but nothing special. We have experienced 5 star hotels in London and The Blythswood Hotel Glasgow should send their staff there to show them what 5 star service really is. Such a shame

We paid £145 for dinner, bed and breakfast, thermal experience and a bucket of beers in the room as part of the square deal promotion which is excellent value. The staff were friendly, the room was huge and comfortable, dinner was good but not great but maybe it was just not really to our taste. The spa was fantastic especially as we went early and it was very quiet. We had one of the best breakfasts we've ever had in the U.K. and nice cocktails in the upstairs bar.I am Glaswegian and i would recommend this hotel to anyone who asked me where to have a luxury stay in the city.

I stayed here for 2 nights with friends. One of my friends arrived the second night and we had to book a larger room with a fold out bed for the second night. Frances on reservations was SO helpful in organising this. They also arranged for our luggage to be moved from room to room during the day.
The hotel itself is housed in a beautiful building which was formerly the RAC in Scotland. Its general feeling is that of understated elegance.
The spa was absolutely beautiful and it's free to use for all hotel guests between 6 and 9pm. I also had a massage which was very relaxing. The restaurant was good though a little pricey. Cocktail list was extensive and imaginative. The breakfast was HUGE!
The rooms themselves were spacious, tastefully decorated and had large bathrooms. There was complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.
The service was truly excellent - they answered our every enquiry with helpfulness and courtesy. I have never stayed at a hotel where the staff have been more helpful.
