Traveled around Scotland with friends for Hogmany and booked Culloden house to experience a country house from which to tour the highlands. We could not have been happier. The staff of Sarah, Harvey, and Noel created such a warm and friendly feeling including not being able to do enough for you. The public rooms had fires going and were decorated in the style and period and looked very fresh. Shield back chairs and fresh flower arrangements added lovely touches to both the breakfast and dining rooms. Both lounging spaces felt warm and cozy, one had a bar while the other was a larger multi seated area.
The food was great with both Scottish and other selections. We all felt that we had the best breakfasts and dinners at Culloden House. In the evening we used the Library or the other lounging area to view comedies on our lap top and enjoy drinks. The staff made cocktails, fresh iced tea and anything else we could ask for including serving our dessert in front of the fire.
Our bathroom, room 20, was new and state of the art including wonderfully warmed towels. The bed and bedding was tired but still consistent with a country home setting.
We also met Stephen, the manager, who was very interested in our experience and suggested how to further enjoy the balance of our trip in other areas of Scotland.
In planning our activities for around the highlands, we used the Culloden House webpage and found Jim Johnstone as a driver and tour guide for the area. We cannot say enough great things about Jim and his touring service, Private Tours Scotland. Jim planned three full day experiences for us that included not only the best sights, but a terrific vehicle, outstanding commentary and his wonderful personality. Jim made each area come to life with his in depth knowledge of the sights and history of the area. Our vacation would not have been half as enjoyable if we had not found Jim Johnstone and Private Tours Scotland. Jim began his correspondence and planning with me a year in advance of our arrival.
Thank you Jim, Sarah, Harvey, Noel and Stephen, you made our trip to Scotland a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: The bathroom in 20 was state of the art.

Staying at Culloden House gives you a real taste of life in a genuine country house, whilst still being close to Inverness. From its grand circular drive and grounds to the high-ceilinged rooms with ornate plasterwork the house is a real gem with original features such as working shutters at the windows (essential on a cold winters night).

The staff were friendly and welcoming, unfailingly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Room service was speedy and efficient and the food enjoyable and well presented, as was breakfast the following morning.

Culloden House is a true country house without the glossy polish and professional interior design of more upmarket establishments. Some see faded grandeur where others see authentic charm. Not everything is immaculate and perfect but for a enjoyable stay in an historic and welcoming hotel it's hard to beat.

I'm delighted you enjoyed your brief stay with us, and that the team ensured that your experience was a true Country House one at that.

Culloden is a Goergian Country House and the owners are committed to keeping it in the Georgian style, a lot of investment and dedication on their behalf ensures that Culloden remains true to its heritage.

Kind regards,

Stephen Davies, General Manager

We stayed here for one night, ahead of a flight from Inverness Airport, for which the hotel is very convenient. The hotel looks magnificent from a distance, with a very grand approach. However, this was not maintained when we went in. Generally, it looks quite faded inside, and is in need of care and attention, and probably the expenditure of a lot of money. Our room was comfortable, and warm on a cold night. However, the bedclothes were too small for the bed, while the bathroom needed refubishment with stained and cracked tiling. Cleanliness could be better at higher levels: the bathroom light was full of dead insects. Both in our room and in the corridors, there were plenty of blown light bulbs. The hotel had an empty feel: we only saw two other guests (at breakfast) when were there.
Having said that, the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was fine, without being exceptional (we didn't eat dinner in the hotel). If you decide to stay there, look out for special deals.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding the team, I will ensure that they are passed onto all concerned.

I apologise that your room wasnt upto our normal standard and will investigate. Our refurbishment programme has been ongoing every year since I started at Culloden House, 13 years, and the owners have invested significant sums of money to maintain the traditional style of the house.

Hopefully you will stay with us in the future and I would be happy to personally handle any future reservation requirements you may have.

Kind regards,

Stephen Davies, General Manager

My husband and I stayed at Culloden House for 3 nights and had the best service, food and drink possible. The staff was superb in every way. How they managed to drag my heavy suitcases up the stairs is still a wonder. We ate dinner in their dining room twice to rave reviews. If you are looking for a place to try the Scottish specialty of haggis (and you should) this is the place. The chef is gifted and we thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine. This is a great place to stay, just a couple of miles from Inverness but far enough away from the noise and the hustle and bustle. Truly a grand establishment!

Our Haggis is by far the best in the local area!! I am delighted you entered into the "Scottish" experience and enjoyed it! Being Grade A listed we do not have the luxury of lifts but by carrying the suitcases up to guest rooms not only do we save our guests from having to do so but it helps us keep fit!

Hope to welcome you back soon.

On arrival we were greeted very warmly by staff. We were taking 2 our room and were informed of what the hotel had 2 offer. We were then shown all about room and asked if we required anything. Later that night we ordered room service which was lovely and delivered very fast. When we woke up our paper that we ordered was outside our door. Breakfast was lovely cooked 2 order and the tea and coffee was served in pure silver. The service was excellent and we would deffenetly visit again.

Thank you for your kind comments, I will ensure that I pass them onto all of the team.

We do try to create an informal relaxed guest experience yet maintain the essence of a traditional Country House, hopefully we will have the pleasure of your company in the future.
