“Beautiful house and views”
Reviewed August 20, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Muilean House is a lovely property with beautiful views of the Firth of Moray. Sadly, we didn't see any dolphins while we were there. Lots of space for lounging, socializing, etc, and plenty of bed and bathrooms for our party of seven. Overall very nicely decorated and appointed, but oddly, missing a few basics: no shelves in showers for soaps etc, kitchen had only two chef's knives, which were dull.
Wifi would be a great addition, as the 3G reception wasn't consistent and not all of our devices could work off this signal.

“For your information”
Reviewed August 16, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at the muilean for 5 nights in August. We were 9: 5 adults and 4 kids. The house is new, big and clean and it would have been perfect if it was:

- not so isolated. It is in the woods of kilmuir, with a very weak mobile line and everything, from a cafe to a grocer, requires not less than 20 minutes by car. Getting here without a car is impossible. Coming from Perth on a new Bmw X5 it has been very hard to find the house since neither the location nor the zip code were indicated on the car gps and Caroline instead of helping us with a map stated that it was a problem of our gps.
- there is no wifi, no DVD player and no way to entertain kids not speaking English and unable to understand TV. Once again Caroline stated that there is 3G. Of course there is for Scottish but for international guests 3G requires very expensive cost of roaming!

If you are looking for peace and loneliness this is the place to stay. But if you have kids and look for a lively place it is definitely not.

Management Response

Thank you for your comments and sorry you did not enjoy the local amenities at our highland home.

Please note the following:-

This particular group of guests appeared to be unhappy with almost everything before they arrived at my property. The night before they arrived I had a telephone call from the lady they were staying with near Edinburgh asking for directions which I gave verbally over the telephone. I also texted the relatively simple and short directions to the guests that night. The next day the guests called asking for early entry at around 12.15, instead of the 3pm already agreed. I offered early entry at 2.30 which was again agreed. They also asked for the directions by text again which I sent immediately. I waited at the property from 2.30 and called and texted the directions several times. Eventually the guests arrived extremely angry with no introduction but rudely proceeded to shout at me regarding the pouring rain, the single track roads, and that my postcode was not listed on google or on their gps system in their car. I checked their car gps and it did not accept any Inverness postcodes. Therefore there appeared to be a problem with it. I assured them that the postcode is on google and got the google images sent to them with google step by step directions. Please note the lead guest who I dealt with and had booked the holiday has excellent English, so there was not really a language barrier.

My property does not advertise wifi as it is not available but there is a good 3g which our visitors enjoy. It appears these guests had not arranged for this with their network provider prior to visiting the UK.

We do not advertise Mulean as "lively" as it is an ideal retreat with peace and tranquility, but only 10-15 mins from the lively City of Inverness and only 5-10 mins drive to local grocery store, cafe, pub, restaurants visitor attractions etc at the local North Kessock area. Most children visitors love the forest and hill walks, beach combing, books, games and jigsaws available at Muilean and do not require computers or dvds whilst on holiday here. They are of course welcome to bring along their own dvd player, game station or whatever they like to play.

“Beautiful location, incredible house”

Firstly, I would like to thank Caroline, the owner, for making our stay so incredible. She was helpful and lovely, and really made us feel welcome.

The house is absolutely beautiful. We were sixteen people staying and there was plenty of space for us all. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and ideal for us all cooking.
The rooms are bright, and attention to detail has been paid so each are a little different.
Plenty of bathrooms so noone was waiting for a shower. The garden is stunning and it was nice to sit outside and listen to the birds and the small stream running down the hill.

The location of Muilean is fantastic. It's right on the edge of Moray Firth, only a few steps down to the water. The hamlet is quiet and calm, an ideal place to relax. Plenty of great walking along the coast or up in the woods which back onto the house.
It was also nice that Inverness is just around the corner, so we weren't completely isolated if we needed to bob to the shops.

We all really loved staying here.

“Surprisingly beautiful”
Reviewed May 6, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We, group of 4 couples, visited Inverness on the Easter occasion and stayed in this property. I must say that all of my friends were surprised to see the property. Since, I booked this property so everyone appraised me a lot to book this beautiful property. It has well decorated 4 big double bedrooms, one twin room, one big hall and kitchen. There is a place in the house for the BBQs as well. You can look at the sea outside from the window of rooms and it is just in front of the house as you see in the pictures.

We visited there to look around Inverness but later we changed our plan and stayed entire one day in the house and enjoyed the richness of it. The property location was very quite. You can hear natural sound of the water and birds when you will wake up in the morning. This is the place where you can sit and relax for n number of hours. And It is close to Inverness almost 5 miles away from the main city.

Caroline is also very proactive and helpful. It would be good if she will provide the WiFi in the same property however 3G network works there.
It was a fantastic stay for us ! Thank you for everything!

House Tip: View from the upper level bedroom windows is quite beautiful.

“Beyond Beautiful”

I stayed at Muilean with a group of 10 friends for a weekend at the end of April. I had read good reviews on the house and the pictures looked nice but they did not do this beautiful house justice. I couldn't believe how close it was to the waters edge of the Moray Firth and how idyllic the location was and yet it only took us just over 10 minutes to get into the center of Inverness. The house itself is beautifully modern, extremely spacious, spotlessly clean and the views from most rooms in the house are out of this world. There was also beautiful decked terrace at the back of the property that we didn't get the chance to use as it was cold and quite over cast, but on a sunny day this would have been the most beautiful area to sit and relax. Caroline the owner was extremely helpful and answered any necessary questions very quickly. We had the most wonderful weekend at Muilean and we are already trying to think of an excuse to stay again soon. Couldn't fault it.

“Golfing paradise”
Reviewed April 14, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We have just returned from a weekend golfing around the Morayshire Coast and used this house as our base again. Our group had a fabulous time here, with such spacious rooms and plenty of en suites that no one got in each other's way. We will be booking again next year.

This is the third time I have stayed in the property in the last year or so, and I continue to be delighted by the very high quality of the accommodation and facilities. The owners continue to develop the site and there is now nice sheltered deck area for BBQs and a double garage with plenty of parking for several cars. The house is kept impeccably clean, and we wouldn't have know there was a hen party staying in it just before us!

The house is in a beautiful location with stunning views across the Firth, and just a short trip into Inverness. Using taxis to and fro into town is no bother either if you choose not to drive. Caroline is very attentive and if there is anything needed that isn't already there I am sure she would do her best to supply. We forgot to ask whether there is any plan to have wifi in the house, as that would be a useful additin. But there is now a very good 3G mobile signal, so no need to feel cut off unless you want!

Thanks again Caroline for providing such a beautiful place in the highlands. See you next year.

“Beautiful home with beautiful views”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

My 'Hens' recently booked this beautiful home for my Hen Party. All was a surprise so when I arrived at Muilean I was absolutely blown away at the beauty of the home and location and couldn’t believe we had it to ourselves for the whole weekend.
The house is situated just outside of Inverness and a short taxi ride or drive away.
The home is decorated well and the kitchen is to die for. All rooms were impeccably clean, comfortable and spacious.
The views are out of this world and the big open windows really accentuate this.
I didn’t meet Caroline until the end of the weekend as everything was arranged as a surprise but when we did meet she was lovely.
I absolutely loved staying here, my friends and I are already planning another trip with our partners and family. We really did not want to leave.
There really are no negatives that I can think of. Apart from if it had a hot tub, then it would be out of this world :)
