The most lovely trip that met all my expectations. Wonderful scenery with mountains, streams, lakes, and lots of sheep grazing next to the railway. Totally absorbed.

This was our second time on the Kyle Line and I think I appreciated the journey a bit more this time. It is certainly true that the most spectacular scenery is around and along Loch Carron, ie the West Coast side. However, once into the hills towards Inverness on the East Coast, it is still impressive scenery. The journey takes about two and half hours in one direction, but there is a refreshment trolley for teas and coffees and small snacks. Definitely worthwhile doing.

Interesting route that we came across on our way to get to the main line station to carry on our journey. Great opportunity to see some of the lovely coastal villages on the way. Station has a small museum, restaurant & a shop.

While on an 8 day rail pass in UK I was in Inverness and for a day trip took the train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. This is a regular line, cost under a tenner and some of the best views ever from a train. A little tip sit on the right hand side going to Klye and then on the left on the return....

The rail line from Inverness to Kyle follows a most attractive and scenic route as it makes its way along rugged coasts, through valleys and over stiff climbs. Some of the intermediate stations are very remotely located. Even if you can only spare one day, then it is still well worth the trip, so long as you take an early outward train!
