We had a brilliant week at Squirrel Cottage. It is spacious, clean and homely, with everything you could want provided. We saw 5 red squirrels in one go plus lots of birds on the feeders and pheasants with chicks. The whole environment is very peaceful and relaxing and there are plenty of interesting places to visit nearby. The Moulin Inn up the hill east out of Pitlochry does great food and we enjoyed an interesting visit to Balmoral with a fantastic drive there through Glenshee and a really scenic spot at the Linn of Dee. Pitlochry Theatre is very close and has really good productions. Many thanks to Kathleen and James.
This was our 4th time at Squirrel cottage & we have already booked another week for next year. Kathleen & James are very welcoming, even letting us set up squirrel photo opportunities on the lawn using moss covered logs etc. Lots of extras when you arrive from bread, chocolates, butter & milk, through to toiletries, bottled spring water & even a sewing kit in case you need one. The cottage is immaculate throughout, loads of wildlife literally on your doorstep, a 9 hole putting green, bat detectors & so much more. We had another fantastic holiday, mainly due to the abundance of red squirrels every day, all the extras that are provided & the hospitality of Kathleen & James. See our previous reviews as well, highly recommended.
This property has made our short-list for returning to, in the very near future. It is an excellent, comfortable holiday rental in a perfect location for visiting this part of Scotland - and the sheer joy of seeing red squirrels in the garden every day, together with pheasant, and a wide variety of birds was second to none.
What a fabulous retreat this cottage is. So comfortable with everything one needs for a perfect holiday. The red squirrels antics are fascinating and a joy to watch and the greenfinches and goldfinches on the bird feeding stations too. What a pleasure it was to revisit. But, if you must, you have access to WiFi also!
A wonderful fully equipped cottage with virtually non stop red squirrel action. A wide variety of birds were feeding at feeders from first light to last. The cottage is also very convenient for other nearby outdoor attractions. The week we were there was enhanced by 4 days of snow which added to the attractiveness of the setting. James and Kathleen have fitted out the cottage to a very high standard with lots of added luxuries which you don't get elsewhere! Repeat visit a certainty!
Looked forward to this holiday since booking it back in Feb and we were not disappointed. The cottage was well appointed and had great little finishing touches such as chocolates, shower accessories, tea and biscuits, bread and milk and some home-made jams - to name a few! Also 2 sets of binoculars, a bat detector and nuts for the squirrels! The seating was comfortable and the bed warm and cosy. The main attraction is of course the red squirrels - we did not see a great deal of them as we were mostly out hiking during the day but the days we were back in the afternoon - there they were. Even on a rainy day, you could just sit in the conservatory (or the bedroom) and watch the bird feeders - totally fascinating. Kathleen was very welcoming and made us instantly at home.
James gave up his time to take us on a short walk to some badger sets he knew about. Although we did not see one the first time, we returned the following 2 nights and saw badgers as well as a large number of bats.
All in all - a fantastic cottage, in a superb location for wildlife and walking.
This was the most well equipped cottage we have ever had! Our hosts, Kathleen and James had thought of everything that one could possibly need. Its a beautiful, cosy cottage in an idyllic setting, the wildlife is amazing and the whole area is breath taking.
