“A lovely base”
Reviewed 7 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

A lovely little base to explore the area from. You'll get an email the day before with details to access the cottage which unfortunately I missed in the rush to get ready and a frantic phone call to the owner as we arrived after a delayed 7 hour drive here was promptly returned by the owner and all was well, so check your emails! If you want amazing views from your holiday accommodation this probably isn't the place for you, looking out of the velux windows there's some nice views of the hills and again on the decking area but we wanted a base to come back to at the end of the day and wander to the pub/ shop without driving and that'd be cosy if we just wanted to stay in- so it's exactly that. The cottage is over 3 levels and has everything you need, lots of towels, hairdryer (gets a bit hot so be careful) which is good and it's handy having a washing machine. The log burner makes the lounge lovely and cosy. You can buy extra fuel from the village. There is wifi and lots of useful leaflets to plan days out/ walks. The cottage is bright and airy(the velux windows are lovely) and the space is cleverly used and perfect for us as a couple (and Kizzy the dog). Parking is on the street but on the opposite side of the road and no issue. The shower isn't particularly great (more of a drizzle than the powerful blast you'd appreciate after a day walking) and the mattress on the bed isn't particularly comfortable, neither is the futon one in the living area upstairs. The upstairs toilet is a great idea. If the owners sorted the shower/ mattresses out it'd be 5 stars for me as a great base. In terms of location, Aberfoyle is small but again has all you really need. If you want pub crawls/ lots of places to eat it's not for you as there's only one pub- but it's a great pub (the Forth Inn) with decent food (@£20for a steak and @£10 for a burger so more like restaurant prices) and they do a cracking full Scottish breakfast for @£7.00. Very friendly and very dog friendly. There's a great cafe for amazing cake/ lunches, a bistro/ bar (not been in yet) a chippy (nice) the butchers do lovely meat and pies and generally good grub, the Co op stocks all you'll likely need and is only 2 min walk away and doesn't shut until 10pm. Sadly the garden centre is closing down. There's the Wool centre for gifts etc. Amazing scenery can be found a brief drive up the road the cottage sits on, the 3 Lochs drive (one way road) is stunning, as is Loch Katrine and try The Lodge for coffee with a real view. Drive the other way away from the cottage past the village school towards Loch Lomond and the MacDonald Hotel, again, stunning views. All in all a brilliant location to explore a wonderful place from. We'll be back unless I win the lottery, in which case we're relocating!!

“Nice cottage with poor sleeping facilities”
Reviewed 14 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We liked nearly everything about the cottage apart from the bedroom; the lounge is excellent, the kitchen facilities excellent and the location is very good. However the bedroom is very small, the double bed is crammed against the wall under the window making it impossible for two people who go to bed/ get up at different times to not disturb one another.

“We were visiting Aberfoyle for a wedding”
Reviewed 11 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Decided to make a long weekend of it rather than an overnight stay for the wedding and took our wee dog along. The cottage was fab, higher standard than our expectations, very cosy and well equipped having everything and more than we needed. Great location, everything a stones through away. Taxi to Wedding venue 10 mins £10 which we thought was very good, picked up spot on time and back was the same (Forrest Hills Hotel). Excellent! In fact we have already contacted the owner for a return visit

“A great place to unplug”
Reviewed 7 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We stayed for a weekend at the end of November, the cottage has great character. It was clean and tidy and very well furnished. There's even a small dishwasher in the well equipped kitchen. The lounge area is upstairs, with the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Half way up the stairs, there is a decking area which sits on part of the roof. Carry on up the stairs to a cosy lounge area, with a log burner, sofa's and TV. There is also another small toilet and pull out bed.
It is on the road, but for us it was quiet, but the time of year would have helped, also there is no wifi or 4G coverage, but we enjoyed that fact that we didn't have distractions.
The cottage is only 5 minutes walk from the Queen Elizabeth forest park, a great place for walking your dog, our's loved it. Go in the other direction and in only a couple of minutes you'll reach Aberfoyle centre, with great shops and two great pubs, the Forth Inn has great atmosphere and drinks. The other has excellent food, I recommend you try the 'hot stone' steaks, delicious!
Aberfoyle itself is ideally located, for exploring the bext of what Scotland has to offer.

Don't know what was worse about this place the oven that had not been cleaned and ended up with smoke coming out of it setting of the fire alarm, the heaters 3 of which did not work and the other had to be checked every so often as it had a knack of turning itself off, being woken up by any traffic that came up what is a very busy road or the yobs that took it upon themselves to scream outside the house till at night.
The cottage is nice in a great location but warmth and a full nights sleep were impossible.

Management Response
15 Sep 2015
Hi there
Pleased to hear you liked the location of the cottage, but sorry you had some issues during your stay.
First of all, it is a pity you weren't able to give us a call to let us know of the problems as we could have popped in straight away to resolve them.
We immediately checked the heaters on receipt of your email and they are working perfectly. We can only assume previous guests changed the settings on the storage heaters to suit their own requirements.
Similarly for the oven, we have checked it over thoroughly and can't find a fault - once again it is unfortunate we didn't have the opportunity to look into this at the time of your stay.
Best wishes
Sarah and Andy

“Great stay for a couple”
Reviewed 8 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I stayed with a dog. Excellent accommodation; very well equipped. Central for grocery shops etc. Comfy bed and although I was there over a warm weekend can well imagine it will be cosy all year round, There is no garden or enclosed space if you need one. No wifi so make sure you've got arrangements for that if you want online access. Aberfoyle can be a busy place and it was a bit noisy at times and this was early September so don't know how it could be in summer as it is on street. But I really enjoyed my stay and I would think great for a couple.
