“Relaxing stay”
Reviewed 2 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We spent one week at the Squash Court, had a great time exploring the area and loved the bright and airy accommodation. Our favourite walk was around Loch Drunkie but all of the surrounding lakes and forest walks are amazing.

“disapointing lack of holpitality”

first impression is of a nice building with a lovely picture window, however we were immediately put off by the build up of bird droppings on the window ledge. The next thing to greet us was the dirty front door and the poorly attached key holder. Opening the door, the place smelled musty, on entry we thought the décor and furnishings were basic and uncomfortable. There was a dining table with 2 half burned down candles and a bowl of cheap plastic fruit, very shabby!! Moving to the kitchen, the cooker had a layer of grease on top, the work tops were sticky and the upper surfaces were dusty. The lower bedroom carpet had not been hovered and the showers were spotted with stains on the grout. The women in our party were obviously very put off especially when well all started itching after 15 minutes (pets allowed?). The famous piano was covered in a layer of dust and there was a general impression of lack of care in the cleaning of the place, glass and mirrors were dirty etc. Personally, I just felt that there was no attempt at hospitality and no care put into the presentation of such a fantastic space. I have stayed in over 10 self catering cottages in the UK and I would rate this second from the bottom. My granddaughter described it as being akin to a student common room. Despite the lovely window, there was no view, there was a ban on lifting the blinds so it all felt a bit hemmed in. We were instructed to use the orchard outside if were wanted to spend time outdoors sitting or barbequing. The orchard was in fact a piece of rough land on the hillside across the road and not very appealing, more make do than inviting.
The beds were uncomfortable and we were advised to keep the windows closed at night to fend off insects. Once we cleaned the place up we settled in for the rest of the week.
Loch Ard is of course pretty but there is not much to do in the area and Aberfoyle is a pretty sad village. There is some fun pony trekking not far away at Castle Rednock and many nice drives to take, Loch Katerine and Loch Lomond being close. The Lake of Menteith is close and offers great fly fishing but alas Loch Ard didn't seem to be teeming with fish.
The one good thing about the Squash Court was the curved TV, great picture and reception.

“Certainly not 'squashed' in this spacious property”
Reviewed 29 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Tucked away on a quiet road along Loch Ard is this beautiful property. As soon as you walk in you are struck by how bright and airy it is, with it's double height lounge area, with floor to ceiling windows, overlooked by a minstrels gallery with baby grand piano!

The kitchen was very well stocked and a nice touch of some essentials in the fridge, milk, bread, eggs, butter, bacon and OJ on our arrival. The skylights help flood the place with light so even on an overcast day it stays bright.

The beds were very comfortable and there is plenty of extra bedding and towels in the cupboards. Even tho' it is situated right next to the road the volume of traffic is so light that you barely notice the noise.

We set out exploring on the first day and came across the Wee Blether tea room which was a mile and a half down the road towards Kinlochard. You have to go there for their amazing cakes (we went 4 times in 7 days!).

Also a must is the Go Ape in Aberfoyle with the longest zipwire in the whole country!

Susan was very helpful throughout the whole booking process and refunded the breakages deposit the day after we left.

Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Excellent location with the car park to the Loch Ard Forest 2 miles away in the direction of Aberfoyle, there are plenty of coloured routes in the Loch Ard forest to follow on cycle or foot. and Aberfoyle another further mile where there is a Go Ape centre. A mile in the opposite direction from the Loch Ard Forest and Aberfoyle you will find kayaking Loch Katrine is easily reached by cycle...plenty to do around here....

This is a great family accommodation. Well thought out interior with plenty of room in the property for 4 people to relax. The mezzanine a great idea which was regularly used when someone wanted to relax and read. The kitchen well laid out and no shortage of utensils. A nice welcome pack on our arrival also.
There is an open fire, but we never used this as it was quite mild. A very well lit property with the huge window at the gable end and sky lights.
Cycle racks outside to securely lock up your cycles.
We had a busy and thoroughly relaxing week, all complemented fantastically by the accommodation.
I really cannot think of one negative to say...lovely.

“Lovely relaxing week in this beautiful cottage.”
Reviewed 20 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

The location of the cottage was ideal as it was only a couple of miles away from Aberfoyle if you needed anything but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.
The cottage itself had everything you would need for a comfortable stay and was very cosy. There are lots of lovely walks and running routes nearby. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

A great place comfortable for four adults. The facilities were great and had everything we needed, including sellotape and needles! Walking distance to Askeith House which was perfect for us and not far from Aberfoyle, about an hours walk but just watch the bends.

“Peaceful and well-stocked rental with nice quirky features”

My husband and I spent a peaceful week here, and really couldn't fault it. Well-stocked and furnished, our favourite features were the real fire with plenty of logs and firelighters supplied, the lovely big windows and the piano upstairs. Very little noise from passing traffic, and a short drive away from the village of Aberfoyle with plenty of wildlife (we even saw a Pine Marten right outside the window one evening!) and walks in the surrounding area. A short drive in the other direction and you find a Macdonald hotel with nice restaurant, bistro plus swimming and spa facilities. Great for a peaceful holiday away from city life, I would say a car is a must though as there's very little pedestrian areas along the winding roads for getting to the shops etc. Owners were very accommodating with our date requests and housekeeping retainer was refunded very quickly. Really pleased with this find and had a great time!
