“a heavenly week on loch snizort”
Reviewed June 22, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

first things first...congratulations carol on creating such a marvellous hideaway. and THANKYOU for allowing us to share the realisation of your dream.

after all the 5 star reviews that this lovely property has received it´s hard to find anything new to say. i´ll start by confirming that this truly is a beautiful house in a wonderful location. we loved every minute of our stay in this most peaceful of spots. carol, the owner, is just up the hill if you need her, but the house and surrounding terraces provide a very high degree of privacy and i would particularly recommend the boathouse to honeymooners and those needing (and enjoying) their own space. the boathouse is tastefully and comfortably furnished and well equipped. the house is light, bright and airy. there´s lots of info material and a few books, cd´s and films. some interesting details...lamps, paintings etc. GREAT bathroom of course. the track down to the boathouse is easily manageable even in a car with limited clearance. so no problems here for a standard saloon, well at least not in summer! carol generously provides staples and some yummy treats to start you off, but it´s not far to a sizable supermarket and several speciality shops in portree. don´t forget to buy your beer from the brewery shop in uig. there are plenty of restaurants within easy driving distance. do book ahead at the more well known establishments. carol can help you with this. we found the long sunny evenings at the boathouse too good to miss and prefered to spend them there. there are fresh flowers and a welcoming note on arrival with lots of useful tips. could go on, but this place is really all about the VIEW (actually plural...wonderful, wonderful loch and mountain views) that and the beauty of loch snizort. a week here is heaven for bird and wildlife watchers. a treat for photographers. we had very good weather during our week in june and spent HOURS gazing over the water from that big wooden bench overlooking the loch. shielded from the wind this is the perfect spot to watch otters, seals, eagles, divers, oysters catchers and many more. hares, hedgehogs and of course the local sheep are all regular visitors too. there´s generally a breeze so not too many midges and just a few clegs...but take your smidge all the same!

booking couldn´t be easier and carol is very kind and helpful at all times. would be great for guests from dollar or euro zones to have option of paying via credit card or paypal. yupp, i know about the charges for small businesses, but our bank charges our horrendous on sterling transfers. maybe an idea for the future. a scope would be great addition. maybe in bedroom? had good binos with us but best otter viewing was near sunset/dusk and scope+tripod would have big help. was there anything we didn´t like? one small thing...we found the bed rather soft, but since we prefer a rock hard mattress we´re hardly equipped to comment and expect most people would find the bed just perfect.

would we come back? like a shot! it took three attempts on three seperate years to get there, but third time very lucky they say.....they were right.....

“Superb!”

If you're looking for self catering accommodation for two people on Skye then you must book Carol's boathouse. The renovation is superb and the location stunning, being literally feet away from the Loch. Like most reviewers it was extremely difficult to leave. The only problem we'll now have is finding anywhere that's ever going to live up to the Kingsburgh Boathouse. Will definitely return.

“The boathouse is a spacious relaxing attractive restoration in a superb setting.”

We chose the boathouse because it is so close to the water. We were delighted to find that the restoration was done in such a way to optimise the views from the many windows. The skies changed from minute to minute, and we were able to appreciate the beauty of the light from the comfortably furnished sitting, eating, or bed areas.

Liked best: The views from the windows.
Liked least: Temperature control - we found it too hot at night under the large duvet, even with the window open.
