A group of 5 went to Maryborough for the weekend 24th March.some of us were only staying one night but even after check out we could use the spa facilities and lounged around the hotel having dinner there prior to travelling back to Dublin. The hotel is fabulous with well maintained gardens which the bar/lobby open out onto. this gives the feeling of being out in the country side. Its definitly a destination that you can retreat to forgot about the outside word and feel pampered. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The rooms were fabulous, clean and spacious with lovely views of the gardens. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and attentive. You were made to feel valued. We 100% enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent also and speaking as a coeliac they had plenty of choices and the staff understood the dietary requirements without me having to explain to them which was a refreshing change to other places I have stayed/eaten in. Their smoothies at breakfast were definily a treat along with the home made cookies and coffee on sunday before we left. All in all if you are heading to cork for a romantic mini break, girls weekend etc this is the only place i will be staying in future.

I will definitly be staying here again as will all of our friends. It was definitly value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking garden have balcony's.

stayed here for long weekend 22-26 march 2012. drove 5hours from belfast, but was well worth it! very friendly check in and assistance from Deirdre. the atmosphere begins with a friendly smile at the front desk, and doesnt change! all the staff we encountered smiled, said hello, or even stopped for a chat! had a very minor issue with the room, and immediately were told it would be fixed, but we would be moved to an upgraded room anyway!! WELL - what a room(spa room) ! if possible book into a spa room! not only is it a quiet relaxing place to come back to, after a hard slog around cork or the many attractions, but you will not even want to leave it! ambient lighting (like the starry lights on the wall), the solid dark wood flooring, the granite surrounding the bowl sink and bath, i could go on and on, but then it would spoil the suprises! the food in this hotel is second to none. we have been on top class cruises and stayed in the likes of the westbury hotel in dublin, and this beats them all, hands down! the food is so fresh and cooked to order. we had breakfast, lunch, dinner and a gala dinner, and everything was brilliant. a special mention to the wonderful Kitty in the resturant, who is an asset to the hotel. the impression you get from the front of the hotel, is one of an old gentlemans residence or mansion. this continues inside where you are greeted with a lovely warm open fire, comfortable settees and chandeliers. however, once inside, the rest of the hotel is like a tardis, or another hotel altogether! modern tasteful decor, lots of areas to sit and relax, eat or people watch. there is a 'petting farm' for children, a great spa, and walks within the hotel grounds. it is a little hilly but not hard to manage. there is a bus stop not far from the entrance, which will take you right into the centre of Cork city, but also the village of Douglas itself which it passes through. if driving and coming from the motorway (north) you can by-pass the city centre which is great, especially if you dont know where you are going! this hotel is classed as 4*, but for the life of me, i dont know why. everything about it and their staff shouts 5* at least. i hope to be back, and i hope it will be soon.

Room Tip: book a spa room, they are amazing.

My girls friends and I stayed in the hotel on the weekend of the 23rd March. We had a fantastic two days and could not highly recommend this hotel enough to other prospective visitors. Nina on reception right through to all the staff we encountered were friendly and professional. Our bedrooms were beautifully appointed with balconys over looking a woodland vista. Delicious breakfasts each morning served till 11am. This hotel is an ideal place from which to enjoy Cork. The local pub called Barry's was brilliant too!

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful hotel from the 23rd to 25th March 2012 for a leisure break. From the moment we arrived until checkout two days later the service was first class. While it is beautiful hotel that has been upgraded with sensitivity it is the staff that made the whole experience memorable. All staff were friendly , helpful and made one feel completely at home. The hotel hosted a wedding on the Friday and a large function on the saturday night, however at no stage did these functions impact on our stay. We stayed in a lovely "standard" room on the third floor overlooking the gardens Breakfasts were first class as was the the dinner we had in the restaurant Saturday night. The wine list and prices that were sensible added to our enjoyment of same. The location of the hotel also adds an extra dimension as Cork city is so close and it is also easy to drive out to both West Cork and the South East. We are already looking forward to a return visit to this hotel and we have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Room Tip: Ring reservations, the staff will do their best to accomodate you with a nice room

we had the most fantastic weekend thank you marybourough hotel and staff.
I can t talk about the hotel without first saying how truly wonderful the staff are- from the girls at the front desk who welcomed us with a smile and introduced the children to 'snowey' (have to visit to meet him!) to the restaurant staff (who noticed our son loved fishcakes and brought out an extra portion!) the breakfast crew to the spa and gym and household staff..... all were exceptionally friendly, genuine and professional and made our stay so enjoyable. We ve stayed in lots of hotels but truly it s the staff and their welcoming friendly attitude that made this hotel stand out. Not only were they attentive, (nothing was ever too much trouble) they managed it all without ever being intrusive and they made us feel welcome and relaxed. They
The hotel and accommodation was just perfect - beautiful surrounds and gardens and a true boutique feel.
Food was amazing - we both had a truly delicious and delectable meal from Zings on the first night (wine list fantastic). It was truly refreshing to see a childrens menu that has healthy options. And a bar menu that contained such variety too.
The spa was lovely. I cant wait to go back and try some of the classes in that lovely relaxing sun room! The gym was surprising for a hotel gym - big and spacious and bright and airy!
Pool was lovely and great to have a fenced off childrens area.
The juxtaposition of the old world and new surroundings melded together perfectly in a truly unique way that adds lovely character and uniqueness.
The location is great too - walking distance to shopping centre, easy drive to kinsale, clonakilty, we drove to west cork in less than 30 mins.... will definitely be back would recommend it for families, couples retreat or groups ...

Room Tip: our room was beside the stairwell - i worried initially that i would hear noises at night - but we d...

Just stayed here at the weekend with my husband, parents, sister and brother and I would consider maryborough to be perfect for this kind of break. The entrance is olde worlde but the rest of the hotel is modern and fresh including the bedrooms. The restaurant on Friday was very nice and the service at dinner was excellent. Breakfast is good with a wide range of choices but the service is a little chaotic. We loved sitting in the hotel on Sunday afternoon reading the papers. It's the perfect spot! The staff on reception are pleasant and friendly. On a critical note, the beds and pillows are not comfortable. We still had a good sleep however and the hotel makes up for this in so many ways.
