Sheila's was a very positive experience for me. The location and accommodations were clean and comfortable, and the staff service was great. The host, Paddy, was especially friendly and helpful.

Great hostel, friendly staff, awsome cafe (coffee served in a french press - yummy :) ! Bagels, muffins, sweets, even breakfast were available for purchase. Safe, convenient location. Knoweledgeble staff. Storage lockers, laundry service AND free, easy to use WiFi, all critical offerings to me.

Beds were surprisingly comfortable and the facility was quite clean.

Cozy cinema room to relax and unwind in bean bag chairs - fun!!! Oh, and don't miss the sauna!!!!!!!!!

One more thing, a book trade where you pick a book and leave one you have read - what a smart idea!

Can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room was like a dungeon and the shower was impossible to use- ice cold water, shuts off every 20 seconds (literally), and water streams so thin and far apart you hardly get wet. Was afraid bed would collapse and having no light from the outside was very dreary. On positive note, staff was helpful and free wireless available- good location too.

Very simply. Sort out the linen and the washroom/toilet/showering facilities.

Pros: Nice common area, they put on a good breakfast for the group (althou we brought our own cereal, they have a bar at reception so you can get a nice casual drink if you just feel like staying in/or you're too wrecked to go out.

Cons: Toilets, washroom, showers; all unnecessarily grotty and dirty. For god sake just sort it out and get it cleaned!! Scrape away all the dirt and retile/re-seal the feicing place. What the hell is the story with the sheet on the bed? They basically use double sheets and fold them over sideways. i.e it's like a sideways apple pie bed that you can only get into on one side. Ridiculous.

There are far better hostels in Cork, Kinlay springs to mind even thou it's a bit of a hike up the hill and a bit further from town. Still it's gotten Sheila's beaten hands down.

The location is unsafe with badly lit alleys and streets surrounding the hostel, more than 1 of my group saw and were approached by addicts as we were returning to the hostel and felt only that there were a few of us we would have been in trouble with 2 addicts at one time following straight up as far as the door of the hostel. The hostel was old, like a maze, toilets and shower rooms were unclean, staff were unfriendly and the rooms were very small banging my elbow or knee off a bed every time i put on a jumper of trousers. Unimpressed to say the least.

We needed somewhere to lay our head on an overnight stay in Cork. Sheila's is easy to find - quite near the train station. Reception is quite nice and breakfast room clean and welcoming.
Our room was at the top floor - lots of stairs and no lift. Bed was comfortable enough, but kept awake til about 1am with music and revelry going on below our window. Was too warm to close the window. This did stop promptly at about 1am however, so we did get to sleep soon after.

This was a most pleasant surprise. Though a hike up the hill and a bit off the main drag, but it was wonderful. The staff were absolutely friendly and helpful, with Paddy being one of the most entertaining people we'd met in Ireland and a source of great suggestions for sights and activities. The kitchen was large, with many cooking areas available, and there were options of eating in the kitchen, in the attached television lounge, or in the open rear courtyard. For the accommodations, the price was better than fair. Check in, and you'll be doing yourself a favour.
