I had read the reviews before booking this hotel but went ahead with it anyway as noise does not really bother me.
On arrival, the receptionist seemed put out by having to check us in. She mumbled something about breakfast and check out which neither of us understood, then handed us the key. The stairs and hallways are in desperate need of refurbishment, however our room was lovely. We were on the first floor facing the street, directly over the queue for Diceys/Krystle. We assumed it wouldn't be too much of a problem as it was a Monday and we were heading out for a few drinks ourselves.
Neither of us slept until 4.30am. The noise of the traffic (the luas in particular), the shouting from people in the queue and taxis beeping and swerving around people on the street was unbearable. The music from the clubs was fine, and could barely be heard over the rest of it. At some point during the night the fire alarm was also set off. The earplugs provided didn't help much at all. Just when you think you might get some sleep the luas starts back up every few minutes and at about 7.30 the bottle skips are emptied, followed by all of the old kegs being exchanged.
We had breakfast earlier than planned and then checked out. Breakfast was fine, more staff than customers all of whom stood chatting at the doors to the kitchen for most of it. At check out an argument between management and a staff member had spilled from the private room opposite the desk out into the foyer which was very inappropriate. Check out was abrupt.
I have never before written a review and had never intended to, but feel so strongly that people should avoid this hotel that I was compelled to write one.
