Almara was our first B and B in Ireland at the beginning of our two week experience, and unfortunately we judged everyone after on their model. Matt and Marie are true professionals, their home is immaculate, VERY tastfully decorated, nothing is overlooked. The breakfasts were the best we had during our two week tour of Ireland. Marie takes time with each guest, answers all your questions, makes you feel truly welcome. We used this location for visiting Galway, the Aran Islands and Connemara and it was very accessible. Almara deserves its 4 stars!

Stayed here part of out trip across Ireland for our honeymoon. The couple that run this place are amazing !! They truly care about their guest. My new wife loved the homemade breakfast in the morning, she thought that it was well put together. We had the upper room at the top nice and big. The bathroom wasn't but we didn't mind.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for one night before heading to South. The room was large and the bed was comfy. Everything was nice and clean.

The house is located a few kilometers from downtown so you would need to drive or take the bus into town.

Marie recommended the lounge down the street for a pint because we were looking for a place to go in the evening where we could walk. The bar/lounge at the hotel down the street was really nice and we had a nice chat with the bartender who had lived in Canada for a few years.

They have you select your breakfast the night before (which isn't unusual) however I really wanted pouched eggs on toast which were not on the menu, so I just wrote it in as a request if possible and sure enough I had the best pouched eggs in Ireland! She made the toast into a circular crustini with a rim and it looked fancy.

Happy with our stay!

Nice and comfortable rooms, very friendly and attentive owner, and great breakfast atmosphere with more choices than a restaurant. Easy 5 minute ride to a city center. Will definitely stay again.

What an amazing kick off to our first night in Ireland! Staying at the Almara house with Matt & Marie as our host and hostess really set the tone for our stupendous and unforgetable trip to Ireland. Marie & Matt went out of their way to attend to our every need. They exude warmth, charm and hospitaity beyond compare. Upon our arrival, Matt warmly greeted us at the door and invited us in to his beautifully appointed home.Requesting a room for three adults, Matt showed us a beautiful, spacious room upstairs. Later realizing my mother required a walker, Matt immediately asked his wife if my mother could have a more suitable room on the first floor. Without hesistation, they accommodated her with a lovely room on the 1st floor overlooking their patio garden. After getting settled, Matt recommended a place nearby to get a drink and a bite to eat. Arriving back at the house, Marie greeted us as if we were family returning home. While I went in to have a shower, Marie invited my mother into her sitting room to chat and have "coffee". Marie shared the exciting news of the upcoming birth of her 1st grandchild (due in two weeks.)That night my mother went to bed with a smile on her face. She said, "We've been cuddled and squeezed." How perfectly said!! We woke up to a brekfast fit for a king and queen. The menu ranged from eggs benedict to crepes. Marie's culinary art with her personal touch surpasses all; sure to please any palate. After such an enjoyable time, Marie shares one last memory with us, her beautiful daughter's wedding book.
We highly recommend the accommodations at Almara House and our new friends, Matt & Marie Kiernan

Matt and Marie run an amazing bed and breakfast! They are very welcoming and helpful with our traveling needs and questions, the breakfast options are wonderful and there is something for everyone (yogurt, crepes, cereal, full Irish breakfast, eggs, smoothies, etc.) the rooms are spacious and comfy with the bathrooms en suite, and the location is right near the bus stop which takes you to and from Galway!

Room Tip: The house is near the bus stop, but has enough privacy for a peaceful sleep which ever room you are...
