The Ferris Wheel B&B
Ranked #86 of 143 Killarney B&B and Inns
Reviewed 13 August 2014

The Ferris Wheel is located in the shadow of some of Ireland's highest mountains, right at the beginning of the Gap of Dunloe. Note that currently Google maps location for the B&B is incorrect. The correct location is about 1 km north of the indicated location.

John and Nora Ferris are warm, friendly, witty hosts. Both went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. John took us up the gap in the jaunting car (two wheeled horse-drawn carriage) that has been in his family for about a hundred years. He is a fourth generation jarvey (carriage driver).

The breakfast was great, with a good selection of cold items in addition to the hot items that need to be ordered. The only quirky thing about the B&B were the showers, but that was a minor issue. Highly recommended.

At first, we were disappointed by the location, being farther from Killarney than we anticipated. But we soon realized that the B&B was just down the road from the Gap of Dunloe, where we spent a day hiking and enjoying the bar/restaurant at the beginning of the trail. Also, the location was very quiet and relaxing, but close enough to Killarney to make for an easy trip for dinner (maybe 10-15 minutes). The breakfast was very good. The room was quiet, comfortable and spotless, and included a hand-made guidebook of local attractions that was extremely helpful. Most important, the hosts were very helpful and accommodating, as we encountered a problem when local businesses were closed because of a bank holiday that we didn't know about. Many thanks to our hosts for a most enjoyable stay.

pros - location in the countryside away from the tourist crowds in Killarney
- modern and clean
- good breakfast
- nice people

cons - can hear people in their rooms as you walk past
- had to wait at breakfast time as not enough seating, perhaps if they are full they should organise different sitting times like 7-830 and 830-10? Just an idea

I've stayed in a lot of accommodation ranging in value and in my personal opinion this is not 4 star but rather a good 3. A few little things not working in the room but they were sorted quickly so customer service was good.

Stayed for two nights while visiting the Ring of Kerry and what a fantastic choice. The area is first class, the rooms are first class, the breakfast is first class and the price is first class. Will definitely be back.

Great little spot, minutes from Killarney and a nice base if you're down that part of the country. Everything was fine in the B&B itself, room was clean, a good size and the breakfast was good. Owners were nice as well. Good handbook in the rooms as well with plenty of information on the surrounding area.

John and Nora made us feel very welcome, with lots of handy info on the locality (and what a stunning location it is in, within a short walk of the Gap of Dunloe).
Nice clean room and a very good breakfast.
Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Ferris Wheel for two nights, the standard was first class. We have stayed at some 4 and 5 star hotels that were not as good, for the price paid it was excellent value for money. Everything was exceptional down to the cups and saucers and the knives and forks. I would have no hesitation in recommending this B&B to anybody. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
