This is a really lovely place, beautifully restored, glorious rooms, many overlooking the garden and others with views of the castle. welcoming and friendly staff. Breakfast is really good too. We return regularly and always look forward to it.

Room tip: Each room is different as this is a restored Georgian building. If you prefer a garden view or a larger room discuss it

Spacious family room with view over the beautiful walled garden was perfect for our night in Kilkenny. Fantastic location. Really lovely staff, each one so helpful, professional & kind. Delicious & varied breakfast. Would not look beyond Butler House when visiting Kilkenny again!!

Dear Happythought,

Thank you for your review, I am delighted you enjoyed Butler House, the team and the location along with the food- What is a vacation without good food eh. Next time you visit try our afternoon Tea in our restaurant overlooking the Garden or if the sun shines in the Garden.

6/17-18/2017. Kilkenny -- Butler House--more like a small hotel than a B&B--no family in residence, permanent staff in office 24/7, +/-80 rooms, three story building, no elevator and no one to help carry luggage! The decor is a bit stark, almost clinical, (but signs said renovations underway), but the room was great...spacious with functional but nice furniture. Newly decorated with very nice modern bathroom, Good hot water and water pressure. Perfect location next to Kilkenny Castle and village. Fabulous private garden, huge, a wonderful private parking area. Excellant breakfasts.

Directly out the back garden is access to Kilkenney Castle. Kilkenney Castle tour was good, beautiful old castle which has gone through a number of renovations. Paris Texas Restaurant. Bollards Pub. Lots of shops and activity in Kilkenney-nice.

Jerpoint Abbey (fouded 1180 by Cisterian monks. Kells Priory, abbey ruins from the 500's a few miles out of town. Well worth the effort 9 of 10.
Merchant House, Rothe, very good interesting. 6 of 10. Saint Canices’s Cathedral from Medieval times—don’t miss this!

Room tip: If you are a senior it's a good hike up three flights of stairs with your luggage--ask for a lower room. We would definitely return!!!

We were delighted with the spacious rooms and every more with the delicious food - freshly prepared from local ingredients. It is hard to believe you are staying in the Centre of the town, this historic house is a hidden gem with direct access to Kilkenny Castle. The staff here are fabulous and very personable. Very welcoming and have great attention to detail...especially Wendy. We’ll be back!

What a wonderful surprise it was to stay in such an amazing place. The rooms are very clean, modern but yet you can see the history in the design. The gardens are lovely. There's a lovely little pantry hidden in the basement and the view while having your breakfast from the breakfast room is heaven. The breakfast was lovely with a few choices on a menu including eggs Benedict and French toast, etc. From the time you walk in through the front doors, the staff can't do enough for you. They were very helpful with places to go and if you want to book anywhere for a meal or entertainment, there full of suggestion will organise this for you. The only thing that's missing from this wonderful hotel/house is a lift. I can understand not wanting one in it as it would ruin the look and charm from this lovely place but if you where any old or bad on your legs. It would be tough climbing the stairs. And I say this because I'd love to bring my in-laws(they'd love it here) but they wouldn't be able for the stairs. Thanks again for staying in your love house.

Dear David B,

Thank you for your feedback and I will be delighted to pass it on to the team, especially at reception. I understand your comments with regard to a lift in the building and in the way we are structured we have 3 stories and you are completely correct. We have plans in time when we get to upgrade some bedrooms, we hope to put a lift in should we be allowed by our architect- but back in the 16th Century there was no lifts and would they forgive us for doing it- its certainly opens an interesting debate. I do appreciate your kind comments and I do hope to personally welcome you back to Butler Hous0e in the not so distant future.
