Description: The Cuckoo in Alwalton is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

The folks at the Marriott suggested this pub and it is a short 6 minute walk from the property. The menu is extensive with options for any sort of meal option. I chose to sit in the bar and you need to walk up to the bartender to place your food order. They will bring it out to you. I had a lovely piece of salmon with a nice Malbec (extensive wine list.) Service was prompt, the meal was prepared exactly as I requested and it was delicious. I would highly recommend The Cuckoo.

Once again the Cuckoo at Alwalton has excelled themselves in providing terrible service and ultra lame excuses.
It's Good Friday. It happens every year. You'd think a pub would be geared up for both Easter and the Festival of Antiques which coincides with the Easter holiday.
Nope.
Although we booked a month previously, when we arrived there were FIVE dishes that had run out + ONE of the starters & ONE of the desserts. WHY!!!!!
Whatever happened to forward planning? Whatever happened to common sense?
It's Easter. It's the Festival of Antiques. Demand would understandably be high, yet the Cuckoo management seems oblivious to the obvious.
Why didn't they order more food in? It's not fresh food anyway, most of the dishes are pre-prepared and vacuum packed.
What makes the Cuckoo truly outstanding however are the appallingly lame excuses from the waitresses.
I think they must be learnt by rote during a 'what happens when things go wrong' team meeting.
Not interested in excuses, I just want to have a choice of more than SIX dishes. Having NO vegetarian dish is also amazingly pathetic.
Not sure why I keep giving this place the benefit of the doubt. It's not worth the effort. Honest.

We were staying at the nearby Marriott for The Peterborough Festival of Antiques. Booked a table for the Thursday, arrived early and was shown straight to our table. Served quickly by excellent staff, food arrived promptly and was very good. Booked again for the following evening and was very impressed, will definitely visit again when we are back lineup September.

Met up with some friends for lunch today was told there's a 45 min wait for food, fair enough we were told before hand. Unfortunately that 45 minutes ended up being 1hr 15mins. Our friends ordered after us but received their food 20 minutes before us and we ended up eating separately. They did manage to send our kids meals out before ours but then I had to send it back but not before being told the sausages are burnt because they are charred grilled and if I want them redone they will come out the same. She did replace them and they were cooked in the oven and was much better. The team were friendly enough but seemed to lack customer care which is a shame as the venue is nice and the adult food was also nice. If they can sort the waiting time out and increase the customer care this could be a great place to visit.
