“Dreadful Pool & Pool Facilities”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

Room was great apart from small problem with tea & coffee facilities in the room.
Pool and facilities were terrible, definetly not worthy of the four star rating that it holds;
Steam Room not working
Lazy River not working
Spa Bath Unheated
Walk down corridor from changing rooms to pool facilities.
Whole pool area is in need of a good refurb.
Along with other small issues, the pool facilities were more than poor, and this is one of the main reasons my husband and I picked this hotel for our visit, and therefore would not recommend it to anyone else looking to enjoy the same sort of thing from a hotel stay.

Room Tip: Quietness and room quality itself were of good quality.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read you were uphappy with our pool and its facilities. The lazy river and jets work by request, for those guests wishing to swim lengths the jets can often hit them. We apologise that the steam room kettle had broken during your visit, this has now been replaced. We are trying really hard to make sure everyone who visits our pool enjoys what we have to offer. Our team are working around the clock to improve the Health Club facilities, the Health Club is very clean, tidy and offers everything you need from a Health Club- swimming pool, steam room and sauna, gym and squash courts. Kind regards, Steve Collins, Sales Manager

On arriving at the Hallmark I had high hopes with a nice entrance. Unfortunately looks can be deceiving. The room was comfortable however not a 'double bed' but two singles zipped together.

The evening meal was an adventure. Very poor service. With a 15 minute wait for wine and water. When the water arrived there was a bottle top (Coke) in the jug?!

The food was unfortunately memorable for the wrong reasons. The duck salad with hoisin sauce came with no hosin sauce as they had run out. The prawn cocktail with a 'modern twist' where the twist was 5 frozen prawns. Bruschetta comprised of a French stick sliced (one slice).

I would not recommend staying here for anyone.

First night of four so will be eating out next few nights.

We stayed here whilst we played golf at the nearby Gloucester Golf Club.

The refurbishment by the Hallmark group of the bedrooms and public areas is to the highest standard, however the pool area is tired in appearence and is need of refurbishment. There is a friendly and good sized bar area. The restaurant has good spacing between tables and the food is of a good standard but the wine prices are expensive for average wines. The Reception staff are friendly and helpful.

Really comfortable room, with tea and coffee making facilities and even an ironing board and iron, which was really useful. The bed was large and apart from a couple of noisy people going down the hall late at night, had a good nights sleep.
The spa changing room was too far away from the pool and you had to walk down an area which people wearing outdoor shoes used, to get to the reception. The pool was far too warm from the jacuzzi in the centre, overflowing into the main pool.and quite murky, probably due to the lady washing down the side areas with some chemical, straight into the pool! There was also some brick debris at the bottom as the walls were not sealed.
The staff could not have been more helpful and advised us of places to visit and sorted out the problem with our entry card, when it would not work. We had some excellent soup and sandwiches in the bar area, as we did not want a large meal.
I would stay here again, but give the spa area a miss,

Room Tip: Give the spa a miss unless you like a warm pool.

We have just returned from a weekend Spa break from this hotel. We had an absolutely fab time, its a lovely hotel, the staff are so helpful and friendly, our room was great, the facilities excellent. We had our afternoon tea on Friday, its was a great surprise, sandwiches, scones, cakes, shortbread and strawberries, with a lovely cappacino coffee too. The spa treatment on Friday was great with lovely friendly staff, my facial (a first for me) was very relaxing.

I can't comment on the pool facilities as we didn't use them, preferring a nice lazy stay.

Breakfast on Saturday morning was delicious, plenty of it, all lovely and hot, I recommend the scrambled eggs.

Dinner on Saturday evening, while ours was good, we did notice they were running out of alot of things, we ate at 7:45 and I had the last of the mussels, they also ran out of lamb and vanilla icecream, so I would advise not leaving it too late. The service was OKish, but not great, we had to keep asking for our drinks that they just kept forgetting. But in fairness they did have 3 functions on in the hotel with 300+ attendees, so were stretched. This did not distract from us having a great time though.

We did have some noise problems on the Saturday evening, as a crowd of rugby tots and their Dads were staying, and running up and down shouting and banging the doors. However, we spoke to the Manager, who immediately sorted this out. We were very impressed with how quickly it was dealt with, and later in the evening the Manager saw us and asked if we were OK. Again we were impressed he remembered us with so many people in the hotel, we really liked that personal touch.

Want to give a special mention to the Bar maid, Caroine, she is an absolute credit to this hotel, nothing was too much trouble, service great, really friendly lady, made us feel so welcome and at home.

We would really recommend this break, if your looking for a nice hotel and good service, you will get it here, even with glitches, they were all sorted out.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed in this hotel, the first time they were building the reception so it was a bit like a building site......this time it was lovely. The reception looks great, the rooms are large and spotless, comfy beds, helpful staff, good food! Asked for something not on the menu and it was no problem. Would stay here again when working in the area. Didn't make use of the pool but would next time as it looks great.

unfortunately the night we stayed, the hotel was taking on an influx of guests from another hotel that had encountered hot water problems and was dispatching its guests to local hotels for the night. this meant that the Hallmark staff were overun with guests and basically couldnt cope with the unexpected numbers arriving. although it was good of the hallmark to take on these guests, it really shouldnt have been done to the detriment of guests who had chosen hallmark as their first choice hotel. we queued at check in but that wasnt too bad. it was dinner that was a joke and breakfast time too. at dinner we waited an hour for our starter to arrive from the time we gave our initial order. we also had to ask three times for our bottle of wine and water! breakfast was the same. i would dearly have loved a second cup of coffee, but i wasnt offered and i darent have asked as the one poor waitress that i could see was rushed off her feet trying to seat guests, take their orders as well as clear tables! the other three waitresses that were there when we arrived seemed to disappear into thin air leaving this other lady on her own apart from a young suited gentlemen who kept disappearing back and fore to the kitchen to top up the beans !! there was one heck of a qeue at the breakfast buffet and some guests were a little disgruntled. the hotel has had a revamp and is quite nice but our bathroom shower was a joke. it was so cheap and nasty and kept sliding down its stand . try washing your hair crouching in sync with a sliding shower head! quite fun! also the noise outside our room was horrendous! heating pipes or something clanking all the time. not good! staff were all friendly but i feel that there is an air of professionalism that really is missing. waitress shouting over to us (while hubs on business telephone call at breakfast) asking had the guests on the next table 'gone'? as they hadnt drunk their tea!?' we stayed at the hotel as husband was using one of the function rooms to make a staff presenation and the staff were helpful with regards to this especially eastern european girl at reception.prob would stay again but not if it is busy ;O)

Room Tip: ask for one with no clanking heating pipes outside!

Thank you for your comments. I apologise that service was not up to our usual standards during your stay. As you noted, this was due to the large influx of guests from a neighbouring hotel which was last minute so we did not have time to bring in additional staff. I acknowledge that service would normally be better, but feel that our staff did a good job under the circumstances.

With regards to the shower head and noise in your room, I've asked maintenance to look at this as a matter of urgency.

Once again, thank you for your comments. We always welcome any feedback which allows us to improve and provide a better experience for future guests.
