Stayed here for one night after visiting Alton Towers. Lovely hotel, but we initially ended up in the hotel over the road (has the same name). Nice staff, nice bar, nice little room. No complaints! Would visit again.

It was a clean and comfortable room and staff were polite and helpful. Hotel was a walk away from town and train station.
Near to a good restaurant and some local pubs. Breakfast was nice too. Iron and hairdryer in room as well as a ironing board.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years, while visiting family in the area ,we find the hotel is centrally situated for the town which is in walking distance takes about 10 min on foot ,also plenty of places to eat ,if you like Indian food try the shalimar gold ,just across the road from the hotel,
The rooms at the hotel are always kept spotlessly clean with nice white linen ,we did have an issue with our pillows in the suite ,which in my opinion needed.changing as they had become a little flat with no spring to it ,but I like feather pillows,
The breakfast is help youself with all the usual, bacon ,fried eggs ,scrambled eggs ,
Sausage, beans ,tomatoes,
A very pleasant stay the only thing I do begrudge is paying £14 for overnight parking
Which has only been introduced over the last few years apart from that it was a good stay

The team will be thrilled to read your review, thank you for appraising our efforts at four stars it is very much appreciated. Hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. I am sorry to read that you begrudge paying for car parking in a city centre location which is opposite a railway station. This is a prime location which attracts high ground rent and tax from the council.Due to its popularity it also requires huge upkeep in the maintenance of potholes, staffing, lighting and litter picking and that is where your token payment goes to provide you with the convenience of parking close to the hotel. It is still I believe one of the cheapest car parks in Derby and we are transparent on our website and third party websites that car parking is chargeable. There is limited restricted and unsupervised free car parking on the streets close to the hotel and is your best alternative option if you do not wish to feel begrudged in the future. I do empathise with you but sadly the days of free car parking are long gone.

On 17th March my wife and I together with my son and his partner booked into this hotel for the night of a family party. The rooms were family rooms and had everything that was needed, plus a single bed that was not needed.
However, during the party there was heavy snowfall and many guests left early but family stayed until the end although the venue closed at 11.30 due to the weather.
My daughter, her husband, 13 yr old son and 13 yr old grandson could not get a taxi as they had stopped running.
We walked to the hotel a short, but very precarious journey as earlier snow had frozen to ice and the new snow settled on top.
We enquired if there were any rooms and there were not but the night managers, James and Drey could not have been more helpful! They lphoned other hotels to try to find rooms and after about an hour agreed that the two boys could use the extra beds
in our two rooms and they then provided the extra bedding required.
A|ll of this was against a background of a steady stream of other stranded people coming and going looking for a room for the night.
The guys were very considerate and after another half hour said that if all else failed my daughter and her husband could sit in the chairs in reception ubtil either a taxi was found.
Thankfully at around 1 am they found a hotel room for two people, only a easonable walk away, my daughter and her husband set off and the rest of us went to bed. They reached the hotel with no major drama.
Come the morning we all had a late start and met in the reception of the Hallmark about 9.45, we had previously checked with reception that we could buy extra breakfasts.
Unfortunately, when we arrived for breakfast there was little or no food left. Enter the duty receptionist, whose name I did not get, sorry, she rang the Hallmark Midland Hotel across gthe road and confirmed that we were welcome to have breakfast over there. This we did and the staff there were equally welcoming and the food was great.
Thank you to all concerned and sorry for the late post.

Good Afternoon Phil,

I was very pleased to hear that we able to help out after the onslaught from the 'beast from the east'.

The team really did go above and beyond in helping find alternative accommodation, its just a shame we couldn't squeeze them in here.

I have personally thanked the boys on night for there efforts and hopefully we can welcome you back to the hotel in the not too distant future.

Kind Regards

Simon
