visited here last night for my husband's birthday. There was 14 of us in total and must say we all had a lovely time. The reataurant was fully booked with every table occupied...if you want to dine here then you have to book. Once seated we had garlic bread slices and olives added to the table. Some had starters which consisted of scallops, bruchetta (with cheese) and pate (those that had them all said they were very nice) followed by a selection of mains....mainly the medetterian kebab (awesome) as well as the real deal burger, lasagne, steak, chicken and pasta dishes. Again all of which were faultless and cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive and friendly. As it was my husband's birthday they brought him out a slice of black forest gateaux with a candle (on the house) and sung happy birthday...all of which added to the evening and made it special (owner also bought my husband a drink on the house). Some also had desserts like creme brulee and toffee crunch. All the food and drinks were reasonably priced and everyone said when we left what an enjoyable evening they had. We all live in spondon and never realised what a gem this restaurant is. Will definately be coming more often. I've also heard they do breakfasts so will definately be giving this a try too! Thanks again.

Thank Laura D

We had a birthday to celebrate in the family so thought we would give the Clock a go as an alternative to the usual 'plastic pub chain'. Always wary we did a quick recci the week before and were impressed by the pavement appeal to the point that we decided to book there and then. The staff were very courteous and helpfully gave us a copy of the take-away menu to show everyone.
The booking was for 8 diners at 7 on a Saturday evening (earlier than we would normally eat but had to get back for Taboo!
The restaurant was rammed with only a few seats remaining unoccupied with the staff giving a great impression of azure reared diptera (look it up). We were shown to a table in a corner next to the serving hatch and the ice cream display freezer. Being a bit picky, this is a little negative as the bright neon light in the freezer rather let down the slightly kitch décor of the restaurant.
Once seated, menu arrived, drinks orders taken swiftly followed by a basket of garlic pizza base which quickly disappeared. The range of food is not massive but was augmented by 4 or so specials off the board which were mainly steak based and considerable more expensive than the main menu but I guess that's what a 'specials' should be.
There was a bit of a wait for the mains to arrive (we didn't go for starters) which arrived on an as ready basis which may be best for the food but leads to diners being unsure if they should tuck in before everyone else is served. However yours' truly engaged the staff in a bit of banter and joined in the numerous choruses of happy birthday which is more than can be said for all staff members (she knows who she is :) and clapped loudly during the procession of the volcano candles.
Our party selected an eclectic mix of dishes including from the core pizza, pasta and kebab ranges plus a couple of pan fried fish and seafood options. The opinion on the food is usually directly related to the level of conversation whilst eating; the table went pretty quiet. The only negative comment concerned the mixed kebab with only the minced meat actually looking like it had been cooked on the skewer, the steak and the chicken pieces certainly didn't. All were a little overcooked and gave the impression of being cooked and held before serving. Still finished it off but had tired jaws by the end.
Mains completed further drinks orders were taken followed by an enthusiastic rendition of the desserts by the Maitre d. We had all decided not to indulge but his enthusiasm won the day and we ordered ice creams and sorbet. Excellent value!
Although the restaurant was very busy and the team turned a table of 8 in as many minutes, we were not under pressure to vacate giving the food chance to 'go down'. The bill was presented with a very generous handful of after dinner mints but there was no need to sweeten the deal as the bill was very reasonable.
We wandered out in to the frosty night all happy with the 'Clock' experience and promising to come back again soon.
