Leave it to the fine citizens of Derby to commemorate their police force with a small museum. Important! Even though it appears on online maps that the Gaol and Museum are on Friar Gate, the only entrance is from Agard Street, across a small yard or vacant lot, east of the Friar Gate Surgery.

This museum is actually inside the Derby Goal Museum so you can do both in the same visit. Being a retired Police Officer I found this very interesting which is full of information about Policing in days gone by. Plenty of stuff to read and articles to view so well worth the visit.

Derby police museum and gaol. Two rooms of Derbyshire
Police history. Plus lots of cells to visit.
A room of the first known police id photos.
See the gallows, early forensics, history of Derby criminals.
Only open on Saturdays, £3 admission. Plenty of free parking. Kids can try the shackles, hang rope, etc.
Cafe serving drinks and snacks.
The guy on the till was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Would recommend.

We were talking to the pub and a person pointed to the police museum! so we just started walking in and we realised that it was closing but the staff still let us in and explained the stuff. they were very nice because they could of us to go away but they didn't, some good info and had a giggle.

I attended the Police museums open day which was well attended by some many people and there was so much to do for the children. Members of staff were dressed in police uniforms and they where taking tours around the Gaol but also the Police museum. they were all very helpful in answering any questions we had on the day.

There was three old police cars on the grass and they allowed you to have a look inside but also selling items for the police fund they help, Help for heroes had a stand selling items and giving info on what they are doing in Derbyshire.

If you have not been its worth a visit they have old police items from swords, helmets, swords & guns. Many of the items have not come from the old police museum which was in St Mary's Gate.

keep up the good work guys and i will be visiting again.
