Visited when it was cold with heavy snow overnight. The efforts of the manager and colleagues to provide cooked breakfasts when all chefs unable to reach hotel was excellent.
We also had dinner at the integral Hungry Horse which was surprisingly good for a chain. The chicken skewers were beautifully cooked. The Peri Peri sauce was miles hotter than elsewhere but not qualified to do more than advise you to check before pouring liberally.
The hotel rooms are equipped with double not king size beds unlike other chains. Perfectly comfortable and our room had a bath. Very shallow but a bath is a bath.
My low score sadly is because the main reason for staying overnight is to get a good night's sleep. Our ability to sleep was interrupted by the radiator making irregular and intermittent tapping noises throughout the night akin to Kathy tapping at Heathcliffe' s window. Even the World Service programmes between 3 and 5 a.m. couldn't mask the sound. Bringing this to the manager's attention brought the response that no one else had complained and it was normal. As I told him, "I have had electric radiators and they haven't and shouldn't make such noises". With such responses we shall probably stay elsewhere than Best Western.
