I visited El Gato Negro with my daughter - it had been recommended by numerous friends and we were not disappointed. Lovely, friendly and knowledgeable service with excellent beer (bottled Estrella cold and malty) and a lovely range of cocktails. We had a range of dishes each (3 each plus one extra was more than enough) and every one of them was delicious. Our favourites were the king prawns in chilli and garlic and the chicken thighs but everything was great. Would have to mention the tremendous Catalan bread too ! We loved the decor and vibe and will definitely be visiting again soon. Our meal was only pricy because of the drinks but reasonable for the quality overall.

There are a lot of stairs and not sure if there is a lift? Could be tricky for anyone who is not very mobile.

Ate here on Friday evening for my birthday as I've been wanting to go for ages and we weren't dissapointed. Our server Andrea was extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was exceptional- we had oysters (DeViNe!), prawns, manchego with figs, pigs cheeks, chicken thighs, patatas bravas, broccoli and the best pork pinchos ever. We slightly over ordered but wanted to try everything on the menu so found it hard to choose - it was all so good. We loved it so much that we are going back for lunch this weekend to try some of the dishes we didn't try this time (although I will definitely have to have a couple more oysters)

Finally got round to visit Manchester's latest addition to our blossoming tapas scene. It certainly competes especially as it does things slightly differently.
Visited on a Wednesday night and started with a relaxing beer at the bar served by a humourless bar man. Later seated upstairs in the intimate and cosy - though very draughty! - restaurant.
There were 4 of us. We shared bread and padron peppers while we chose our dishes. Recommendation was 2-3 per person and we're greedy so we did 3 each and a patatas bravas 'floater'. The menu is excellent and I'd happily eat any of it do it was hard to narrow down.
Our plates were scrapped clean but we were very full. I highly rated the pork skewers, octopus and aubergine with lavash bread, plus the cauliflower. What makes the food quite unique in terms of Manchester's tapas offering is the Middle Eastern element to many of the dishes - the chargrilled, use of pomegranate, harissa, roasted aubergine etc, and the bravas sauce had something extra delicious added too.
We also had 4 puddings. By this point we'd eaten way more than normal people should but they was really tasty - the mini doughnuts in particular.
Service was pleasant and accommodating without being over familiar.
The bill for 4 people with a couple of drinks plus 2 bottles of delicious Albariño wines was £226 including tip. Totally fair and reasonable, really worth the money and not expensive in terms of Manchester.
Loved it. Recommend. Understand it's very busy at the weekend so book way in advance.

Great evening out with friends - Spanish tapas at its best, in smart (but relaxed) venue

Great gin cocktails on arrival, food was great (I'd recommend two and a half dishes per person - we're 4 adults, ordered 3 dishes each and pretty full at the end!)

Great deserts too

Great tapas but slightly on the expensive side. Definitely somethings that's more of special visit than a regular visit.
