I have visited this roastery cafe on several occasions and it's the only place I can drink a latte without sugar! Bitter it is not! The guys really know their stuff, they offer a good range of coffees that are roasted on site and which are also for sale. An excellent choice of teas and fresh food is also available. The space has been tastefully fitted out in keeping with the historic Royal Mills building. With the atmospheric art work adorning the red brick walls, it is a delightful place to while away an hour or so. Definitely worth a visit!

Love the castlefield market so as soon as heard they moved to the Royal mills could not wait to go. Loved the setting and market was fantastic (worth a trip) but to be honest the coffee two soya lattes £6.40 small, tepid coffee was below average.
So will be going to the market every first Saturday in the month but will be finding somewhere else for coffee.

Heard about this place from a friend who is a regular so we met them there for a coffee on Saturday lunchtime.
First impressions were very impressive, lovely setting in an old mill by the canal in ancoats
Staff were friendly and pleasant
I ordered a Latte which on arrival looked lovely but tasted slightly bitter and to be fair wasnt very hot
I was going to order something to eat from the tasty looking blackboard menu, however i was put off by seeing that everything on display on the front counter was not undercover, or at least refrigerated these included bagels toasties cakes and pastries.
On a plus side the Toilets were immaculately clean, so if im ever in the area again and get caught short i know where to go !!!

Hi,

Many thanks for your feedback - I'm sorry your experience didn't meet your expectations and we are obviously very disappointed to have received a 'very poor/2star' review from you.

With regards to the Latte not being very hot - we do tend to make our coffee on the cooler side of hot, so as to not over-heat the milk, which compromises the taste of the milk/coffee.

If you had popped to the counter to highlight this to us, we would've happily re-made your drink to your liking - we understand that coffee is a very subjective and down to personal taste and happy to accommodate any requests where possible.

With regards to certain items of food being displayed - we make all the food fresh each morning, which is then refrigerated prior to lunch service (Bagels/Toasties). We will remove a couple of items to place on display, before being heated through when ordered. They are therefore rotated regularly and is well within food regulations.

To date we have had no other comments regarding our approach to the food display and we regard this as normal industry practice.

If you went to a hotel for a continental breakfast for example, you would reasonably expect to see pastries etc placed out on a table. Constantly refrigerating cakes/brownies/pastries tends to dry them out very quickly.

Other items on the blackboard included soup and salads, which are refrigerated and either heated through to serve (soup) or portioned into a bowl etc to be served (salad) as ordered.

We appreciate your feedback and have taken your comments on board. However, we feel that 'very poor' was a touch harsh based on your overall comments.

Many thanks,

Jamie

I was really excited to discover this place. It's tucked away so it's not that obvious from the street. I love the industrial style. It's almost a bit like a bar. The staff were really helpful too.
