recommended by a friend who travels extensively..

Staying there is akin to staying at your best friends home. The staff are excellent ,especially Miriam and Isabelle. The grounds are superb and well tended. We opted for rooms in the main house-The room was large and the bath had been updated. Our view overlooked the gardens and it was delightful./ The breakfast, a perfect continental started the day off right. My wife enjoys hers in the room and she enjoyed looking at the garden while eating in the room. We were fortunate to have ideal weather for October and the pool was delightful. After traveling from the US, it was perfect to have a restaurant next that served excellent food. There is a lovely drawing room for breakfast and cocktails and a pleasing patio

While they have a annex building, we would recommend staying in the main house. One word of caution, the better rooms are on the second floor and since there is no elevator in the main house, you have to navigate a beautiful windingstaircase to get to them..

Room Tip: higher floor rooms in main house have a lovely view of garden

We have stayed in Clair de Lune every year for about twelve years now, but hadn't returned for a couple - in the time we've been away an amazing pool has appeared, with what must be one of the most beautiful natural views in the world - over the Pyrenees, with layers of hills and mountains as far as you can see. It's next to an architecturally brave function room, which I'd love to throw a party in one day!
The rooms are still beautiful, cosy and luxurious, it's clear that there is an ongoing programme of maintenance and redecoration but without lapsing into beige or other boring hotel cliches. Breakfast is good and simple, and large enough to keep you going for a day (if it was possible to resist the temptations of lunch in Biarritz, which it isn't).
Special shout out to Miriam who was lovely, helpful and friendly.
I can't fault it. I love it. It won't be two years gap until my next visit.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights while touring France and Spain with our drivers club. The hotel was exclusively for us, no other guests. I stayed in the Dependence (former hunting lodge) and the very modern room had a huge balcony. Great benefit!
The hotel, room, staff, food, grounds, it was all above expectation. Beautifully located, great view, sincere staff, this hotel has it all.
Swimming pool area is brand new and serves nice food and great drinks. The view is magnificent.

Room Tip: The Dependence has rooms with balconies. The rooms are small but lovely, clean, and with a great shower.

This hotel is a special place. Just outside of Biarritz (it's an easy 5-minute drive to get into town), it feels like you are out on a country estate. The 19th century castle itself is beautiful and charming, and while it shows its age a bit here and there (part of its charm), it is very well appointed. The rooms are large and comfortable with extremely high ceilings. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. That said, the staff is limited, so expect that you may have to carry your bags up the gorgeous spiral staircase to your room.

Even though the place was 3/4 full when we stayed there, it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves. Be sure to spend some time at the pool, with its gorgeous views out to the Pyrenees. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel, Arosta, is quite good, so plan on at least one dinner there.

We stayed here on a trip celebrating our tenth anniversary, and this was the most romantic and idyllic spot on our trip.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the castle itself. I'm sure the rooms in the hunter's lodge are very nice (they have balconies/terraces), but they can't be as charming as the rooms in the chateau...
