“Just perfect”
Reviewed 20 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

The accommodations were outstanding and the host was so helpful. She gave us all the local places and when Air France went on strike, she got on the phone and assisted us.

“A great gîte, with everything nearby”
Reviewed 15 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a great stay. The gîte is located a short distance (1km) from the town centre, so everything you could wish for is a short walk away. The house was fully furbished, and had a lovely rustic character to it.

Finally, the high tech pool (non-chlorine and heated(!)) was simply amazing!

“A lovely property with helpful and friendly owners in a beautiful part of France.”
Reviewed 11 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We all (myself, my wife, and three 'children' aged 22, 17 and 14) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very characterful and comfortable, with plenty of space for the five of us. The location is very peaceful and the surrounding gardens give a real feeling of being in the French countryside. The pool is great, although the fact that it had to be closed on occasion when the owner was out was a bit inconvenient (although I fully understand the health & safety considerations). Chantal and John are very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive in any way, and Chantal recommended various local places of interest for us to visit.
The village of Les Eyzies is a short walk away and is a very attractive place with everything that you could want, including the essential boulangeries and some good restaurants. The supermarket behind the petrol station is expensive though, unless it's an emergency you are better off driving to Le Bugue and the large Intermarche there.
For the cottage to be perfect, the kitchen and downstairs bathroom are in need of refurbishment/replacement and the sitting room/lounge area, although comfortable, is a little small. This is being picky though, and we would certainly return as Gite St Martin is a truly delightful place and there is so much to see and do in the surrounding area.

“C'est très magnifique!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed in Gite St. Martin for 2 weeks in July/August 2014. The accommodation was absolutely lovely. John was there to greet us on our arrival and was available if we had any queries or concerns. The gite was clean, tidy and very well equipped with plenty of room for the 5 of us. It was so peaceful and relaxing and even on the slightly wetter days, having the covered patio meant we were still able to sit out and enjoy meals and games outside.
The beds were very comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water available. Having towels and bedding provided meant that we had more room in the car to take home wine and delicious food from the region!
The best bit of the gite was the pool. It is heated, a good size, immaculately clean and being salt water meant that we didn't smell of chlorine all the time! We also were able to enjoy pretty much exclusive use of it the whole time we were there which was a real luxury as we have previously been on camping holidays with over crowded, noisy pools!
The location of the gite was ideal. Close enough to the town so we could walk in for meals and not have to worry about having a drink, but far enough away to still have the peace and tranquility we were looking for. There were some lovely restaurants in the town. We went to Bar Alexandre on our first night. Had a very tasty Salade Perigordine. Our last night we went to Pizzeria La Milanaise, which did a delicious entrecôte. The other food looked very impressive too! I wasn't so sure about the Prune Cognac after though!
The area has plenty to see and do for all ages. Having visited the region last year, we didn't do as much sight seeing this time but we can highly recommend a canoe trip down the Vezére or Dordogne rivers, Sarlat and Les Eyzies markets, the mini golf at Montignac, Chateau Castelnaud, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac or any of the caves in the area.
The only downside to our holiday was having to come home :-(
John and Chantal were the perfect hosts and could not do enough for us to ensure that we had a fantastic holiday. We would definitely love to visit again.

“Best Part of our Trip”

We stayed a week and enjoyed the whole experience thoroughly. Chantal is the perfect hostess and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until the moment we reluctantly left. The accommodation is excellent and very well presented. We couldn't fault the service.
Chantal gave us valuable advice on the region and how to see the wonderful font de gaume caves; including preparing a nice breakfast for us "on the run". The French dinners hosted by Chantal, were also very enjoyable and informative. The many restaurants within walking distance were a delight to explore and the food was excellent. There is so much to do in the vicinity and we've only scratched the surface. We can't wait to go back and stay in this historic place and enjoy Chantal's company again.

“A Warm Welcome at Gite St Martin”
Reviewed 21 January 2014 for a stay in July 2013

Gite St Martin turned out to be the perfect destination for our family holiday in France. We spent two memorable weeks with our two kids (7 and 9) in Les Eyzies last July. Chantal welcomed us with a genuine warmth and she was generous and patient with our kids. We sent our children to Chantal for a few French lessons in her study – great refreshers while away from their French immersion school program back in Canada. Chantal also made two fabulous meals of local specialties for us, which were absolutely worth the extra cost!
We felt blessed to be the first family to enjoy Chantal's pool, a wonderful surprise for us since the pool had only just been installed. The weather in July was hot and the pool was so welcome, although we also spent quite a bit of time exploring local rivers, caves and castles. The cottage itself has very thick stone walls and therefore maintains a comfortable temperature day and night. The cottage, though attached to Chantal and John's home, faces its own very private yard and we never felt overlooked. Whenever we ate at the cottage, we enjoyed our meals on the private veranda overlooking the yard.
Les Eyzie is a beautiful village, which houses France’s national Museum of Prehistory. There are also so many great nearby places to visit to explore the local history and prehistory. For outtrips, our favourites included the village of Saint Leon (be sure to stop at Dejeuner Sur L’Herbe for lunch!), Commarque Castle, Castelnaud, La Roque Saint-Christophe, canoeing on Vezere and the many caves of the region. We also liked visiting the snail farm outside Tayac. Some day we would love to make a return visit. Meanwhile, we are recommending Gite St. Martin to all our friends who are interested in visiting this region!
