Dogs not allowed in the museum so dashed around the museum in an hour whilst my partner waited outside with our dog. Very informative audio guide in English explaining the significance of the roman objects on display. Although the architecture is very impressive with clear views of the park, there was water leak in the corner ceiling so the pottery area was closed until it is repaired.

It was a great insight into roman life. Not just seeing pictures but explanations of symbology. We had the audio guide so that we could do it at our own pace.

The museum has been built over a huge Roman villa with outstanding remains of frescoes decoration at the walls.

The history of the place is well described, with some 3D reconstructions.

I only regret that there were some areas closed to the visit due to some maintenance issues at the ceiling and the air conditioning installation. I don’t know since when, honestly.

If you liked this museum, I strongly recommend you to visit a similar one in Spain: the Villa Romana at Olmeda (Palencia). There you could see another impressive villa where amazing mosaic flooring were found.

Here at Périgueux, don’t miss the wonderful tower outside the museum.

A beautiful building with lots to see , well worth €6 eur to get in. Expect to be there an hour. All the descriptions were in French, but you can get a paper or an audio guide
